White vs. Stainless Steel Appliances
Comments (14)Years ago I got advice -- and I'm so glad I took it -- to go with white kitchen appliances (and bathroom fixtures) because, aside from old colors and finishes making still-good things look dated, different units have different life expectancies. No-longer-popular finishes disappear from manufacturers' lines. Manufacturers have extra incentive to drop stainless because of costs. What are the odds of needing to replace all appliances at the same time? What choices do the owners of avocado green appliances -- and harvest gold and coppertone too (and no doubt other finishes that came and went when I wasn't looking) -- have when they want to replace only one of their appliances? And those were just paint colors, not an entirely different material....See Morewhat cabinet color goes w black stainless steel appliances
Comments (33)It's the "black glaze" part that I'd eliminate. Glazing like that has a tendency to make the cabinet just look shabby and old. There's enough going on with the gray stain on the wood, no need for glaze too. You also better make sure you will be comfortable with the variegations in the wood which will come to the surface with that wash. See on the sample pic you posted of the Snowbank door how the vertical, horizontal, and center panel pieces look so different from each other? Make sure you see it IRL and imagine that all over your kitchen. Some people--maybe you--might say "how charming, I love that". Others might not. Which one are you?...See MoreMixing stainless steel appliances with black stainless steel
Comments (4)I think you can definitely mix them. However, I wouldn't mix them on the same wall. For example, if your fridge and your range are on one wall in black stainless, you could add a regular stainless DW and microwave in the island. If you're going this route, carry the mixed metal idea through to your faucets, hardware, and lighting, too. Lots of great photos on this site with mixed metal finishes in kitchens. All that said, I wouldn't do this if you're planning to sell the house in a few years. If it's a look you love and you will be in your home for many years to come, go for it....See MoreStainless Steel vs Black Appliances
Comments (11)I have had both with an oak kitchen . I liked the black but replaced with stainless. Right now your appliances still read as stainless or black. my only caution would be this. Make sure you get the same finish and style on your fridge as it is right beside your stove. Black can come in very shiny ( so hard to keep clean), matte , black stainless, pebbled ( easy to keep clean and not as shiny)etc. You want them to coordinate as much as possible. Even having the same type of handle will be important to coordinate your kitchen. Look through the photos on houzz for wood kitchens with the various appliances and you will get a better sense....See MoreShannon_WI
