Definitely leaning towards neutrals, as this is the color scheme of this entire level of the house. All walls are BM cloud white. All windows have black curtains. Flooring is the same gray/taupe hardwood throughout. I was thinking caramel brown leather to pop out on that black shiplap wall, but may be too pricy for 4 chairs. Definitely don't want anything traditional or fussy (which I KNOW goes hand in hand with the mahogany piano but alas I cannot change that lol!) Furniture in the adjacent rooms is cream/gray/wood. We need pics of your space .I think it can work some of the issues I would have are the sound in a loft space These are 2 pics I found so doable , good I am not so sure. Maybe try a stereo up there to see how the sound is before moving the baby grand up the stairs which will need a piano mover BTW

I have no room for a floor lamp, so I've gone through various interations of desk lamps. It sat off to the side on the music desk and shined toward the center. I loved that thing, but it fell apart after many years of use. I spray painted it black and sat it off to the side of the music desk, angling it as far to the center as I could - it basically suspended the light over the music. But I missed the brass color and this one was so large that I felt like it dominated the whole piano. So I scoured ebay for a few years and eventually found a vintage brass lamp. that worked. I now have both lamps on the piano - I'm trying to decide if I like sleek and modern look or my old vintage brass. I keep going back and forth on the style - but as far as function goes, the koncept lamp works well - it's nicely balanced and throws a lot of light and is definitely not ugly. I know two households with similar layouts who have grand pianos. In both cases, they have eliminated a formal dining area and replaced it with a grand piano. I remember when we were teenagers and my best friend's dad finally got the grand piano he'd always dreamed of -- so they sold their dining room table. I would put the piano where the dining table is currently shown, which gets it away from the main windows and sun damage (probably with the pianist seated under the window facing out to the room at an angle), arrange sofas etc near the bay window (you could get a TV on that 90" wall if you wanted) and get a nice table for the kitchen. If you got one with leaves that extended you could stretch it out into the area behind the stools when you had more guests. Serving and clean-up will be much easier with the kitchen right there, and you can plan decor to make it feel a little more formal -- just because it's beside the kitchen doesn't mean it has to be super casual! You could install a hanging light fixture over the table and choose paint and art in that area that reflects a more formal feeling. If music teaching, any kind of performance, parental supervision of piano practice or ensemble practices ever happen in your home, having adequate comfortable living room furniture in the same space as the piano makes much more sense than having it beside a dining table used only on formal occasions. And I'm super curious, what is in the small room between the kitchen and the stairs?
