If you're really concerned about getting it right, check out Benjamin Moore's Affinity colors. Supposedly you can pick any 3 colors and they're supposed to work together. Some people have called it "picking paint for dummies". Of course, not all us are born designers, so we need the help LOL! I'm no color expert, but have you tried BM Wickham gray HC171? We used that in our house and in some lights it reads blue, other times of day a light gray. It might be a good middle ground between your gray and hubby's blue.

You need to try samples in your space. I like that Winds Breath has some warmth, but is a neutral without yellow or pink undertones. It may be helpful to consider what colors you are planning to use for your furnishings. Also check the wall color against your flooring. You might also consider BM Pale Oak, which is slightly more griege with green undertones.

Sherwin Williams Smokey Taupe, it's a neutral shade that can be used in any room. It's soft and gauzy.
