Me too...and we have a general store in town with a long bench in front where the old folks sit and tell their tales.

I hadn't heard of liar's bench, although I remember our small local grocery store that had a bench where village people could visit.

Never heard of that phrase, but it reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode with Andy Devine, in which he played a character known for telling tall tales. After his abduction into a flying saucer, no one would believe that this had happened to him.

I suppose you have a story to explain "tall tales" as well 😀

Seems like I have have heard the phrase before, but I cannot remember any context. From my pre-adult days I remember permanent signs attached to some small store exteriors saying something like, "Loiterers will be prosecuted. County law XXXX." No liars'

One of our DS's early jobs was selling shoes in a department store. They had an area near the elevators set up with chairs for Seniors -- mostly those poor men waiting while their wives shopped. DS and his fellow workers called it the Geezer Corner.
