A woman scorned

This was once the title of a motion picture – one of those three-handkerchief “women’s pictures” that still turn up occasionally on late night TV. The expression originally came from a line in William Congreve’s tragedy The Mourning Bride (1697):

Heaven has no rage like to hatred turned,

Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned.
