Comments (36)Mary, George Hooker's formula is a daylily forum favorite. Mr. Hooker's original formula calls for measurements in coffee cans and orange juice cans. All the ingredients plus some water were mixed together to make the stock. Then the stock was further diluted and slowly poured around the roots of the plant. I omit the pesticide he recommended in 1978 and the liqued iron (my blue stuff had iron) and just mix one five gallon bucketful of dilute, ready-to-apply mix: 5 tablespoons of that fertilizer stuff that turns the water blue, your choice. 1/3 cup fish emulsion fertilizer 1/3 cup Epsom salts 5 gallons of water. If you're a purist, you could use compost tea instead of the blue fertilizer and water and just add fish emulsion and Epsom salts. To minimize sloshing out all my solution, I put everything except water in two five gallon buckets on my little wagon, pull them to the area I'm going to fertilize, add water to the first bucket, dip and pour on everything in easy reach until it's gone and then move on to fill the second bucket at the next area. Oh, you add solution by size of plant. The daylily people put 2-4 cups, by size of clump. Warning: Fish emulsion is awfully smelly. One year there was a recipe on the daylily forum for something even worse that added alfalfa and let it ferment for a day or so. It was not for those who can't abide bad smells, lemme tell you! Libby, we should start a thread about pretty plants that just aren't cute any more. My Sago Palm has 34 new fronds this spring. It was cute when it finally had 12 one year and 16 the next.... Now I have to start a tropical bed around it so it doesn't look 'funny' or it might need to go. Nell...See MoreBoiler Choices what would you choose and why?
Comments (6)I would recommend installing a geothermal liquid to water or geothermal DX to water system. Why? 1. You wanted something very efficient (Geothermal 400% ~ 500% efficient vs. oil 85% ~ 90% efficient). 2. Easy to maintain. 3. You have cast iron rads (very efficient). 4. With several supplemental hydronic fan coil units you will not only have central heating but central air-conditioning s well. 5. Geo will also heat your DHW. 6. Rebates under the stimulus bill (see other posts on this matter). 7. Totally eco-friendly. 8. Lowest operating & maintenance costs. 9. Longest life cycle. Adds highest resale value to your home. No oil tank, no oil deliveries, no chimney, no fossil fuels, no foreign oil, and no money leaving the country. Relatively stable energy costs. Comments (41)Attractive Why... because I'm already wise enough to know that money doesn't matter. But, if it does here's some food for thought... higher intelligence isn't necessarily related to higher pay. When all is said and done, the taller man will probably still get paid more. If nothing else, beautiful people are more secure in life and more confident. Plus, higher intelligence is often related to higher rates of depression. Many, if not most, highly intelligent people are cynical and more likely to be depressed. Ignorance is kind of bliss. I think most people will agree that a nice balance of all three may be best. Personally, I would give up a few IQ points to retain some of my youthful beauty and health! Real beauty and attractiveness is a kind of look that I don't think necessarily can be bought. And, don't fool yourself; you can be old and attractive too....See MoreQuestion for those that had Pfizer vax
Comments (57)I had mine yesterday afternoon - more arm soreness than the first go round. I did wake up about 5am today with chills and feeling like I could stay in bed all day. Took some acetaminophen and ibuprofen and feeling a bit better. I did still have a low grade fever two hours after the acetaminophen. I thought this might be like Shingrix and so far that is the case. ETA: I felt tired and a bit chilled and achy the day after my jab and had a low grade fever. Second day now and I am completely back to normal. I thought ibuprofen relieved symptoms better than acetaminophen....See MoreUser
