Measure the floor square footage and go look w your budget in mind. It’s not a small area. Samples laid down will show you how the cabs can remain and look nice actually. There are other things like counter and backsplash maybe removing some upper cabs to alleviate the heavy feel . Do you have a long term plan : to remain here vs. move ? . spend more money later and renovate? Or just keep on w tweaks???

Put down a few rug runners to break up the floor.

If you're just doing the floor now, have a medium brown hardwood installed. That will go with most anything you choose in the future.

I think the best thing to do is to raid the linen closet and clothes closets for different color fabrics and prints, put them on the floor., near the window, see what workS. Also do some online searches.About lighting, bacause changing the warmth factor of your light bulbs might help.

Im looking into your cupboards at your other decor choices and from what little i can see in there and on your counters it seems like you enjoy fun and making things your own, so as a temporary measure, think about heading in the direction of more pure fun, with an unique rug, or delightful peel and stick wallpaper, just great dish towels and aprons might be enough. Just to amuse yourselves until the expensive work is done.

Remove all the top cabinets and paint the lower cabinets, walls and backsplash yourself until you are ready to replace them .

IMo unless you love how that kitchen functions and the whole layout I would not be doing the floors right now or at least get enough flooring now to redo some of it when you redo the parts of the kitchen you don’t like . You will need ro remove the tile (if that is real tile) and it probably goes under at least the DW, fridge and range ( which BTW is in a very awkward space). You can’t put the hardwood on top of the tile . Even if you could it would affect the removal of the DW and the fit . IMO save the money that it will cost to have those dated cabinets painted and live with the space as is store the flooring for in there somehwere in the house and wait to do a new kitchen . In the meantime the idea of a rug is not IMO a good plan rugs become tripping hazards IMO. Change the lighting to LED 4000K then choose a wall color. Try some whites with a yellow undertone to try to tone down the pink. Is that flooring just in the kitchen? If so maybe try to find some loose lay vinyl flooring to use for right now even a fake wood look in the color you are planning for the real wood I know it won’t match but it might give you time to figure out what needs to be done in the kitchen and still tone down the pink.

“White” paints actually have colors in them, depending on the brand and blend, and what looks white in the can will end up looking some other hue in your kitchen, depending on lighting and surrounding. So you need to get paint samples and paint areas to look at before committing

I would do minimal minimal changes if you plan to possibly redo this in the future. I’d probably sand and restain the cabinets instead of paint. I definitely agree on the brown hardwoods. Ideally. And eventually, I’d do new hardware. New lighting. Countertops and backsplash too. But take it slow. Do what you can for now. Keep in mind that if you do the floors now you will not be able to change the layout of anything later on. Might be worth it to save up for a bigger project. So much potential here. Great space. Can’t wait to watch it transform

I think doing your floors and painting the walls and doing a different backsplash will make the kitchen feel so pink.

The best money I ever spent was when I hired a color consultant to help choose paint colors for my kitchen with pickled white/pinkish cabinets. I had quickly picked a paint that I liked when we moved it and it did not work at all with those cabinets. The consultant helped us choose something that toned down the pink and pulled everything together. A couple of houses later, we needed to paint all the exterior trim, shutters, doors, etc. The company we chose to paint had an excellent color consultant that they provided if you were spending above a certain amount on paint services. It was almost worth the cost of the painting just to get her! We picked something I never in a million years would have chosen and it was awesome. Get some recommendations if you can or just google and try to find someone with good reviews.

The countertops are going to be an issue because I don't think they complement the cabinets very well, but I wouldn't spend money replacing them if you think you'll do a full remodel at some point (which I would want to because you have a pretty dysfunctional layout!). Go ahead and do the floors but stick to a neutral, mid-range tone that will go with anything, and buy extra for patching if needed in the future. Don't do anything trendy like greys or super dark. There's a reason natural hardwoods have been a thing for a zillion years!

If you do a 'little bit' reno you will have a 'little bit' kitchen and you will not like it....interest rates are at ground zero, houses are going up in value, maybe the best money would be spent on a new kitchen......now. But honestly, your kitchen is really beautiful in many ways.

If you do the floor now, whatever product you use will abut the cabinets. Down the road, you decide to do a full reno, you will be forced to replace everything just the way it is now; because the new floor will not run under the present cabinets,

Buy a large rug. This one is a Ruggable.

I’d paint the walls, reassess, and see if you can live with the kitchen for now. The cabinets, flooring, and countertop appear to play nicely together although I know you don’t like it. I’d save up and do the entire kitchen at once if that is your ultimate plan. If you do site stained hardwood floors instead of engineered hardwood in the living and dining rooms you will be able to add matching hardwood to the kitchen when the time comes.

I agree with above that those cabinets will look more gold/orange when they have less pink to reflect off of. A big rug to cover the pink floors, paint the backsplash, and you can probably find an inexpensive formica drop-in countertop to last for a few years until you're ready for the big remodel. Formica comes in every color and style these days. My MIL has one that looks like granite until you get up real close.

Also, I can't see your lighting, but certain temperatures of LEDs and some CFLs or whatever you've got there, can all set off different tones from the light source. With just that one smallish window, your lighting is going to be even more important. I'm sorry I can't recommend the right product for you, but I perhaps a lighting person will chime in or you can do some research on options for the fixtures that you've got.

Thank you all . Agreed with everyone’s thoughts on not changing the floors until we are able to do the full remodel . I’m going to start with paint, changing the lighting, getting a rug, and see if that helps! it’s unfortunate that the floor runs through the living room and dining room too .as that coupled with a kitchen is what’s making it a minimum 20k project .

What type of flooring are you thinking about putting in? LVP can be done much less expensively than wood and give you the same look.

A very rough 'lightening' of the wall color - even the bad rendering takes the cabinets away from pink! I am thinking that changing the wall color to a lighter shade will do wonders and the cabinets will become a lovely pale tone which is very scandi! A cost effective counter top change, and change of the splashback and the floors will recede from prominence

The geometric rug( last one shown) a lighter paint color / and I’d do some pewter or dark hardware... maybe some interesting hand forged looking cup pulls on drawers ... not even sure I’d change existing counter and splash because of the redo in a few yrs. try more white ceramic canisters and wood bowls / cutting blocks resting on counters .., you’ll find these kinds of choices will invigorate for a really small effort and price tag.

I agree with Jennifer Hogan and Judy G--use a contrasting dark color to paint the walls. It will be so much more impactful and dramatic than a blah neutral. Trying to match one light neutral to another is very difficult since they can change so much with the lighting. Your cabinets and floor would look great with a dark gray color on the walls. Try Ben Moore Kendall Charcoal, Duxbury Gray, Amherst Gray or Chelsea Gray.

@carolae: I did miss her later mention of the tile continuing in other rooms. If all Design Dilemma posters would post all four sides of a space, that would help Commentors who do consider adjoining spaces from the get-go. The OP did have good photos but not of adjoining spaces. I think I'm going to bump up a recent Design Dilemma I originated asking for comprehensive photos, limitations, etc. It's a good exercise for posters to get in the habit of taking into account how any problem affects other areas.

Appreciate all the feedback apologies for not adding all the pictures and details at once. My main concern is the kitchen because the dining room and living room would only be painting and flooring. the kitchen is what was totally breaking the budget
