Need help with selecting wall tile for a living room

Could you please help us with living room wall tile ideas for our new home?

We are planning on something similar in the below picture.

We would like to bring a modern look to the living room.

The current state of the living room (sorry for the person in the picture)

Stacked stone is avery dated look , that flooring does not say modern to me. I like large format tile for fireplace surrounds if you want maodern as to what color I need to know about the furniture going into the space . IMO the last thing to choose is wall color and I find taupes a bit dated too but I need to see your stuff.

Could you please take another look here for the flooring. This is the link for the model home with the same flooring from my builder.

We are planning on going with stone color for our furniture/seating.

Here is our inspirational photo.

I'm really liking the Capitol White. I think it would look really good in the living/dining area. Here is one picture of some sample boards. Not really large enough to show context, but it works with the space. My concern is I think it might not play nice with the color in the kitchen. Truth be told, I'm not in love with the kitchen color but I don't want to repaint. I've uploaded a photo of the sample boards in the kitchen. Last picture of downstairs bedroom. The plan would be whatever color is in the living room/dining area would flow up the stairwell. So I'd like the new color to play nice with bedroom color. I think it does. Finishing the stairwell massive painting project is next, and then I can get the flooring all put in and be done with the downstairs. I also have sampled out a few other whites too, but will save those for later.

I have at least ten Oriental rugs of different sizes, and they do go with nearly every style. I would pick one with several different colors in your room, warm and cool, to set off all that light furniture in your beautiful space. Put one in the dining room, hall, family room, bedroom, wherever you have bare floors. With all your light wood rich and varied colors will look wonderful and give life and depth to your spaces.

If you want to keep the sofas in same spot I would set the TV up in front of the Bay window and find a TV stand with storage for some of your children's toys/projects. That or place the Tv on the stair wall and set up the couches around that. I think the key is finding something that can store your childrens stuff so you can open up the room.

Google modern fireplace surrounds.

Interestingly enough your inspiration came up as timeless, but it is considered rustic.

I like the floors but again not sure they read as a modern vibe.

All of this said, this is your home. The inspiration picture is lovely.
