Please help with colors for this living room and dining room
Comments (5)Agree with Annie about not letting labels dictate how you use your rooms/house. Our current house has a living room, dining room, family room and one more large living space. We use the living room in the front as the TV room, the central open family room is more formal, the dining room as labeled, and the extra living space is the kids playroom with another TV and their desks/computers/storage. There used to be just a hallway opening between the playroom and the central family room. I had a contractor add a door, so that we don't have to worry about keeping it perfectly neat and it is nice being able to close the door when there are several kids playing a noisy game. I love not having the main TV in the central open family room. Much nicer being in the kitchen without having to put up with sports shows....See Moreliving room/dining room help please!!
Comments (6)A round or square end table big enough to provide useful space for both sofa and loveseat would work, with a large lamp. I have a couple of live plants under a similar mini-split ac unit and also near hear registers and they don’t seem bothered as long as i don’t let them dry out. Some pillows that pull the color from the very pretty rug would be nice, maybe the pink? Or green? Drapery panels can often make the difference between a comfortable room and a cozy room that feels finished IMO. You might want to check out curtains in linen or cotton from Ikea or Target, they’re quite inexpensive and look decent for the money. Mount the rods near the ceiling molding and have the drape just barely touch the floor. You may have to shorten, they make iron on tape that make it easy to hem without needing to sew. A cream color would look nice with your gold-beige walls. Mount the rods wide enough to push the drapes back off the glass for maximum light and views when they’re open. You may never need to close them as you have blind for light and privacy control. hope this helps....See MoreLiving room/dining room design help please!
Comments (3)I think you are right for the living room. Is the shelving unit going? I would replace with something that takes less space - unless you actually have a lot of books you can't part with. You said TV - if possible I would mount it on the wall to save space and get a smaller unit or electric fireplace underneath. For the kitchen I would consider a round or square table - but if rectangular is what you have then I would place the longer side against the currently mirror wall; and have 2 chairs along the wall side and a bench along the opposite side. Not sure what size the space is but if on the smaller side, the bench would allow you to seat more people without crowding the space up with chair, chair, chair, chair. :)...See MoreHELP PLEASE too much green in dining room not working with living room
Comments (6)It's the scale of the lamps that you need to concentrate on the most. I've found that most homeowners tend to purchase lamps that are too short/small. I use 28"-30" as my guide. I rarely use shorter than 28" unless maybe in a bedroom or for an occasional table, and over 30" starts to look odd in most homes. If you're looking at a lamp in person, rather than online (which has the measurements) just measure from the top of the shade down to the table. Also, purchasing inexpensive end tables and lamps first can really help change the look of a room, while you're saving up for the more expensive items (sofa, nice coffee table). Here's a before/after of a living room I did for a homeowner, where all I added were lamps, end tables and throw pillows (just reworked her other items). The end tables I used are really great, they work with a lot of furniture styles, plus they have a shelf and they're less than $100. I use them with a lot of clients! Since end tables don't get a lot of abuse, a "cheaper" one is a real budget saver. Great End Table As you can see in the Before, this furniture is large and overstuffed. A too small lamp would look silly. Using the above linked end tables and 30" lamps: You can use an end table like those (they're 24" high) and the proper size lamp, and it will work with just about any sofa you choose. Also, when choosing throw cushions I would get rid of the two red cushions on your sofa, and replace with a neutral. Maybe throw in a lumbar on one of your two chairs. And here's a room (while we were rearranging furniture) where the homeowner's furniture was not oversized/overstuffed. As you can see, these same end tables come up higher on her sofa, but still work. I can't remember how tall these lamps were, probably around 27"-28"....See Moresambah006
