Hosta Green 2020
Comments (30)I have never been an all green hosta fan. Perhaps because those are the hostas I remember from when I was a kid. Basically Lancifolias and they were everywhere. Even today as a collector and addict, I am not fond of them. And yet, I have them all along the north side of my house. They were moved there to make room for new hostas. The north side is very shady. Not sure what else would grow well in that spot except My “snowball“ Hydrangea (that’s what we kids called it) which I think was planted when the house was built in 1935. So you can maybe understand why I tend to like green hostas with margins or leaf color variation. That said, I see many all green hostas I like, but also like Steve, I am confused about what is green. I did not include any hostas that are chartreuse in color because I thought there is a yellow/chartreuse category coming. comments: windy, that fluted fountain is beautiful and I am sure I never saw that as a kid shadow, I love the light color and veining of Kingsize peren, love Clausa var clausa, Goober is a beauty with its purple flowers and Red October is on the list steve, you are’s as confused about what’s green as I am. Were you wounded as a kid like me, surrounded by the monotony of Lancifolias?? I do like your Devon green hosta_maker, I like the rumpled look of that leaf on the Beilstein seed mbug, your Irish Luck convinces me how stunning all green hosta can be! thank you lovers of green hostas for bringing me into your “green” world!! :-D debra...See MoreHosta Giants 2020
Comments (21)oursteelers, debra- thanks, my FS is in almost all sun, but gets a lot of water. I love its subtle coloring and thick leaves. I don’t have S&S, but have it’s other baby- Winter Snow- which does burn and get ratty with too much sun. FS seems to tolerate the sun better, but again- plenty of water....See MoreHosta Seedlings and Sports 2020
Comments (26)Excellent! Hosta Maker shows up with some very promising youngsters. What's worse, having something interesting that's already out there, or having something interesting that just doesn't grow? Do you still use it for breeding? Here's a pic of the Hosta Volunteer Nursery. I think a bunch are from Dancing Queen.A seedling from a streaker found at Cory's Wildflower GardensIt looks like I may need to split it already to save the streaky part. Or is it not worth the effort if it is stabilizing so quickly? Kaleidochrome seedling Valley's Top seedling planted in too much sun. Now where did I move that to? Flash Of Light tet x Lakeside Sir Logan planted in full sun (and also moved later, but not because it needed it....See MoreHosta Noid 2020
