Noid daylilies 2020
Comments (31)Sherry, It sure looks like Mary Todd. MT was registered in 1967; I did get a few daylilies around 1971, so it could be it. Also the hybridizer is Fay; looking at Russell the hybridizer, he worked with Fay. I know I got all my early daylilies from Russell Gardens. They didn't cost much, but back then new stuff wasn't so expensive like now. Thanks Sherry! I am also going to scroll thru the Russell hybridized daylilies. Most don't seem to have pictures but a few do. Maybe that way I can find others. There are some of my other noids at my father in laws. Thanks Sherry for the suggestion that led into another idea! I may indeed start a Seedling post in May. Brad...See MoreApril 2020 Hosta garden
Comments (63)Djacobz, here is Tattoo today. I bought from Tony Avent's Plant Delights Nursery on an open house day in early spring 2018. Tattoo has a bad reputation, which it probably deserves. I have read of it being hard to grow, especially for good gardeners. After reading of the experiences of others, I noticed a common thread. The better and more attentive the gardener, the worse the outcome. My plant got sick with sclerotia just over 1 week after purchase. I doused it with antifungals and watched the plant 90% die. I decided that I had to do the opposite of what I should do normally. So, instead of putting it in great soil, I dug up the native soil in my yard, a sickly red clay. I mixed clay and dead oak leaves and potted Tattoo in that. And then I try to ignore it, except for pictures. So far, it is not dead and has added one eye....See MoreHosta J 2020 .............
Comments (37)Steve, I have been looking at all the pictures of June posted here and your comment seems right on. I checked the hosta library also and compared June with Touch of Class. My hosta was identified as June when I purchased many years ago. Could be a mislabel. Come spring I will take pictures of my "June" hostas in all locations and at various times spring through fall. May need to change my name tags. If mine is not June I guess I need to find one. Both are so beautiful. Just watching as the snow falls today, big, soft flakes. Temp is 33 and everything is so white. Good moisture for the ground. Stay safe everyone....See MoreHosta Wide Screen Shots 2020
Comments (69)Old_dirt, take it easy and don't get too impatient. Your lovely garden will wait until you are ready to get out there! We only have a half-acre here, but it keeps me busy. This was last June-all back yard upper level (we have three levels and this is the one I worked on last year-behind garage, patio area. I need to fill in blank spots, but will wait until last year's plants show themselves. In pic below, our Sam and way too many unattended-to-yet weeds. I worked on it , but hadn't started yet. Looking back toward patio. Note to self: divide Carex this year! Anyone near us is welcome to some-should have divided long ago. Moving to right around patio w/Sam again. Below, I interplanted the hosta with Chelone, heucherella, heuchera, astilbe, ferns and Gentiana, and other typical companion plants. The old bench in the background is all that is left of a square redwood picnic table set from my childhood which makes it at least 69 years old! New front side yard (driveway to right) looking back toward upper back yard. Will be filling in this year. Nothing is popping up yet other than daffodils which started blooking this past week. Warm weather expected in the coming week (actually getting up to 70 degrees F.!), so I expect to see some of the spring perennials to start showing. The hosta pips won't show themselves for at least a while-end of April?...See Moreperen.all Zone 5a Ontario Canada
