Anyone Grow Buttercup, HT - a Body Bag I Found at Home Depot?

I found a light yellow body bag rose called Buttercup, a Hybrid Tea, in the body bag section at Home Depot. Other than the David Austin rose of that name, I've never heard of this one. Looking on helpmefind......there are 3 HT's named this from 1930, 1927. Only 1 photo of these 3......one is gorgeous, by Dobbie of Scotland, introduced in Australia. It is beautiful! How I wish it was this one! But it may just be a mongrel yellow that someone named Buttercup. Anyone ever grow one of these?

No, I haven't grown one of these. However I am very fond of bagged roses. I had a success rate of 5 out of 6 this year. Don't get your hopes too high about your bagged rose, they are often mislabeled. No matter what it is it will be very special too you as my bagged roses are very special too me as I love nurturing them back to life.

I have already had 2 bagged ones bloom that were mislabeled - Princess Kate and Cl. Royal America. They are Belinda's Dream and Joseph's Coat. Oh well......they are really healthy and its fun to nuture the body bags and see them thrive and bloom! Bet Buttercup will be totally different than its tag......

I didn't check out the chain stores this year except when someone asked if Midas touch was available. I saw only Granadas at Lowe's some were huge and that rose own root from Chamblee's didnÂt do anything for me although every other rose from this company did well so far; but the weather of last year was awful in every sense so that might contribute to the subzero performance of that rose. Still, I just could not bring myself to buy any of those huge Granadas because I remembered all those roses I had to discard due to RMV. I think I have one bagged rose purchased 10 years ago that has become a stellar performer; two that are OK and I kept two cl. Peace with RMV because DH loves that rose. The others were discarded. I agree with Ann, and with my various ailments plus DH's growing resentments of digging up, discarding and replacing roses, I rather buy a multiflora grafted rose or an own root if the source is good enough than experiment with bagged roses. I do get excited if I see some interesting varieties but then memories of roses from 11, 10 or 9 years ago come alive and I walk away. Trospero is right - the rose itself is usually the least amount one spends on the roses: fertilizers, fungicides, labor (yes, your own) etc. add up. Considering how greedy Paul Neyron is, I somehow doubt that it would do well in a pot. It needs very fertile soil, a lot of water and fertilizer and all that given, it does rebloom even in summer heat for me. Paul Neyron is among those rare HPs that like heat. I love that rose and I hope you got a very good specimen.

Thanks Terryjean, Lynette and Diane: Terryjean this is my first experience with body bags. In the past I have purchased bare root roses from David Austin and they always just took right off. But they were in the ground and it was later in the season. Right now it is not even warm enough to keep these guys outside at night. I am keeping them in the laundry room after it turns dark. So no I have not ever trimmed the tops off previous to potting up my body bags. Thought it would be fun to try these. And really if they take off that will be fine. If not at five dollars a bag I am content to chalk it up to experience. Lynette thank you. I think sulking is a good description of what's happening at the moment. There is a small amount of growth on Mr. Lincoln and Gold Medal but not on White Magic. However the canes are still green and appear to be alive so now we wait I suppose:) Thank you. Kate

I bought my body bag roses a few weeks ago from Aldi and I'm very pleased. The following have been a success: Tiffany, Kordes Perfecta, Oklahoma, Oregold, Olympiad, Gold Medal, Tropicana, Sundowner, Love, Toro, Golden Shower, Pink Peace, America Climber, Chrysler Imperial, Red Masterpiece, John F. Kennedy, and Intrigue. The duds (they haven't broken out yet but still have green canes are Double Delight and Josephs Coat. Not bad given that my success rate for body bags used to be much lower. The only rose that has survived the thirteen years of change that my yard has undergone is a Don Juan. Your pic, Sultry, is so nice. The color on my DJ is a bit different, but the form is dead on. Where in Florida do you live? I don't think I'll see any body bag roses down here in Pembroke Pines.

Who knows they may just send you another pack of two as replacement, then you'll have three 🤣. Not that one isn't enough, but even though it was a good price, you paid for a pack of two. They should at least credit you fifty percent!

I always find those rare vintage body bags so tempting. Keep us posted on how Buttercup turns out! How amazing if it turned out to be the Dobbie 1930’s rose! I did buy two body bags from HD (Medallion and Miss AAB), an both were true.

I had also bought 7 or 8 roses from Tractor Supply this spring and not one was true to label, each turned out to be a different well-known older variety. I took care of them the same as my most prized mail order roses, and they all grew into beauties. Some of them I gave away to some very happy recipients, so it was all well worth it.

I agree! Many people hate these bagged roses a lot and I can't understand why. I always have a great success rate with these. In fact my bagged roses are doing better than my grade #1 roses. Only one of my bagged roses has RMV.
