Nero mist honed granite - fissure or crack?

Recently installed hones granite in utility room on sink. Here is a picture of what I think is a “crack”. I have been told it is a fissure and is normal. Would you replace? Am I being unreasonable? Is it worth going through having plumber come back unhook sink, get new granite installed and rehook sink to not really know if the existing product in rest of room will match replacement?

That's probably a crack, not a natural fissure. When they're bright white like that, they're usually fresh. I'd hit it with some black magic marker and some super glue and forget about it.

I agree, looks like a crack but no, I would not go through the hassle of getting it replaced. You have that type of movement in your stone anyways. It's brand new so you focus on it now.

Like a lot of you, I love soapstone and I lovethe look of antiqued nordic black. We drove over to a soapstone place in vermont yesterday (Green Mountain Soapstone). Their stone was lovely, BUT, because our counter is an L with a diagnol due to a lazy susan, they wanted to charge us for the whole rectangle( and not just the L) - this means an extra 50% is sf-age - feels like a rip-off. So I went to home depot, where theyhave asoapstone called Savonpierre - anybody know much about this? Its a lot less expensive, but I'm nervous because nobidy gets soapstone athome depot. Nordic Black makes me nervous because the edges atthe stone yard awlays look crumbly and I think becuase itsa large grained granite, its not going to be as tough as Abs. black (smaller is stronger!!). Sorry for the info dump. But am having a hardtime deciding. Any thoughts? btw, we have a modest kitchen with a simple L counter and and about 25 actual sq.ft of counter. Thanks a bunch Vidya

When I was looking for a remnant recently I noticed several had "Fissure in left corner" or wherever, written on them in large red letters. Some were practically invisible, I would never have noticed them on my own. Your distributor should have disclosed this to you. Shame on them. I do not know what your legal recourse's are but I would certainly leave a negative review wherever I could. If your fabricator is offering you a free slab I think he must be a bit embarrassed himself for not saying anything up front. If you don't care for the free slabs, I would certainly ask him to try Treb's solution on the crack and see how it looks. Good luck with this.

A crack would be all the way through, from one side of the stone to the other, creating two separate pieces that moved independently. That is a fissure. Any attempt to do anything to it other than Joe’s sharpie will only make it more apparent. It’s fine. Don’t sweat it. Granite isn’t waterproof to begin with. Honed already has a physical texture that will get contaminated with stuff by itself. Nothing has changed about any property of the stone. It just has a more interesting look to it than you thought it had.

I appreciate your help! It was bought at MSI. Maybe it was my bad attempt of sealing and it is the sealant that is making the mark? We've been having bad luck with this project to say the least! Happy Thanksgiving!

If it’s bothersome to you, I suppose you could quote out a job to repair or replace. If it cracked due to installation error, I would hope that it would be replaced free of charge.

FWIW, I think it looks really pretty.

would love to see a larger picture of counters as nero mist was recommended to me
