urgent! please help advise for backsplash
Comments (24)You know how Patti's slate has squares set horizontally at the bottom then a line and then has the offset going above? Because I do have such a small kitchen I'm thinking I would just keep the backsplash to the height of the horizontal line of squares-- although it would go up rather high behind the cooktop. That first line looks to me to be appx 4 x 4? For the height behind the cooktop, maybe there could be a rounded top instead of a squared top-- so a strong vertical element but still not too much backsplash? I fear too much backsplash will take away from the openness I really crave. i'm actually thinking just the opposite. i think you should go all the way up the wall to the ceiling, and that will make the space actually feel bigger and more open. but only if you use a really simple tile--something with almost zero texture, color variation, or embellishment. like white subways. ditto to what bluekitobs said above--they won't compete with your shaw's sink. here's a pic of my last kitchen with white handmade subways and a shaw's: oh, and don't worry about the misspelling!...See MoreI'm so done with this kitchen. Comments (27)April - Love your countertop and your cabinets and can't wait to see the final reveal. When you finally find the tile - it will be love at first sight! I really wanted a glass backsplash. I had those same tiles in my kitchen plus others. I also considered back painted glass but the cost was way out of budget. I also could not get the glass to talk to my kitchen no matter how hard I tried! Some others to consider - there were a number of Jeffrey Court tiles that were close seconds. I also loved Heath tiles but was too far away to find a match (I was too embarrassed to ask them to send me a third set of samples especially when I said I didn't want crackle and ended up with crackle LOL) Here is a picture of the Grazia Rixi Crema that I used It is probably a bit lighter than this picture but my little camera had difficulty with the light. I also put small accents above the cooktop. The accent row is called Beach - not sure who actually makes it but it came from the Tile-Shop (not Tile Shop) Again - probably a bit lighter in real life. PS - Ellen - I think you are my "fan" club! (of course, you have the same tile as well!)...See MoreHelp-- can I remove part of my backsplash
Comments (44)WOW! What an elegant solution. Thank you for sharing that with us, it was neat watching in real time -- seeing your dilemma followed by the really inventive solution you came up with! I feel like every day in the kitchen remodel I'm trying to stay one step ahead of the disasters, trying to design on the fly and head off the problems. It's nice to have someone else mirror that experience, and it's comforting knowing sometimes those dilemmas produce the nicest, best, most creative results. Really, you should be so proud....See MoreHelp me finish my coastal bedroom, please! Flo, Beth H., HIWE?
Comments (25)This is the beginnings of a very beautiful room! That bed is absolutely stunning! I find your blue coverlet is clashing with the teal of the bed. Because the bed is the star of this room, I would use all white linens on the bed and use the blue coverlet across the bottom of the bed. The patchwork quilt I would fold and just have sitting on the bench at the base of the bed. If you have a bench, by the way, don't do the ottoman for the chair. For your ceiling light and table lamp, go with a style more current and not "pretty". And that's the same with other decor in this room. All your major elements of this room are already "pretty", if you add more "pretty" it will start to look sickingly sweet. Replace the ruffled pillow on the chair with something less "pretty". I would go with a plain cream upholstered bench to match your dresser and night stand. Let the bed be the star. Instead of the beige paint, I would love to see a very very soft blue or pearl grey....See Morekelseyt17
