I agree, it might not feel as put together if one of those lights was a gold color. I think the island light is wood and it still works. For my purposes, I think in the main area that is visible from multiple "rooms", I will need to be consistent with the main color and style but will vary the shape so it's not too boring. So if I have mainly oil rubbed bronze thought the main open area, would it be weird if the powder room then has chrome lighting/cabinet hardware/faucet?

Personally, I’m a fan of the industrial look also and am a huge proponent of doing what you like, regardless of whether it’s trendy. That being said, from a practical perspective, I like that it is more minimal, easier to match between fixtures, and easier to clean :)

When does one buy lights? Have open concept LR DR kitchen and entrance hallway. Kitchen cabs not getting installed till end of summer. Am thinking lights should be tied up together by some concept, right? How does one goes about tying all elements together? I know i want to follow simple scandinavian design with clean elegant lines at modest to moderate prices. I am looking to replace entrance hall lights and I need 2 of them. Not sure how to go mixing and matching other lights though... Any suggestions? There is no rugs or furniture or floors yet. I am not buying furniture until floor is installed and not getting floor in until kitchen cabs in. Really pretty space. The dining & living areas seem very well defined by the soffits & posts so don’t see any issues with a rug in both spaces. I would want them to complement each other in style & color. The entry - is that an inlay on floor - like a mariners compass type design? If yes, that might be a more challenging rug space unless design is totally covered up. Might be a nice feature though & I can’t determine the amount of space between it & the door. Maybe in that spot for a rug, a rectangle shape in front of door & a bit less than width of space from door to inlay & a solid color would work best.
