Wall oven/microwave decision: Miele steam vs speed vs Monogram 5-in-1

We are designing a new kitchen and due to space and design issues, our interior designers are wondering if I might consider a combination microwave/wall oven instead of having a separate wall oven and microwave. My main oven/range will be a Lacanche with a vertical electric convection oven, larger gas oven, and warming drawer.

For my wall oven, I had my heart set on the Miele combination steam/convection oven (like this one: https://www.mieleusa.com/e/steam-oven-with-full-fledged-oven-function-and-xxl-cavity-dgc-6860-am-brilliant-white-10221000-p), and also a Miele microwave. Our designers are wondering if I'm open to the Monogram 5-in-1 oven (https://appliances.monogram.com/us/specs/ZSB9131NSS#features) as this is a microwave and an oven...but it would not have the steam feature.

We definitely want a microwave--I know lots of folks say they've ditched theirs and do fine without it, but we have kids and I use it so many times a day, I really don't think I can entertain not having one :)

I am not married to the steam function...but with no other constraints, thought the Miele combination steam oven was really cool. But would I really use the steam feature all that much? Maybe not...hard to say.

I also like the idea of the Miele speed oven (https://www.mieleusa.com/e/30-inch-speed-oven-h-6670-bm-clean-touch-steel-10486330-p), which seems to be a microwave as well. Again, wouldn't have the steam feature...but would fulfill my microwave requirement plus would give me a more "high tech" oven option. Also, the ovens in my Lacanche are smaller so I wanted a wall oven to fit those large items when I need to.

A feature that I dont think the Monogram 5-in-1 or Miele speed oven have isa bread proofing setting...I cook bread a lot and would really love this, or otherwise would need to have the oven set reliably to a temp around 75F.

Does anyone have experience with any of these appliances? Thank you!!

IMO you never combine a MW with a wall oven the MW will die long before the wall oven and I have no idea how that change will free up space . I like bread baked in a gas oven , I think appliances should be bought for how you cook not becuase they look cool or they are the newest thing.I have only ever used commercial steam ovens and in both places they broke down more than they worked so when I did my kitchen it was not a thing I needed and 13 yrs down the road I still don’t need one and I run a catering biz from home. I do use my MW but it sits on the counter ans when this one dies I will replace with another that sits on the counter . I have an all gas range and double all electric wall ovens I have one portable induction burner I use for really deicate sauces and melting chocolate . I proof my bread in the gas oven with just the light on no issues.

We're building a new house and the placement of the appliances is pretty much fixed at this point. We didn't have any idea of how tricky this would be. Speed oven, Steam oven plus 30" convection oven and induction cooktop. Where to put them all? And how to decide which manufacturer so that they all match, without breaking the bank? We're thinking that the 30" Convection oven will be the one we use least. The Miele Steam seems better than the Bosch, but that means we have to make everything Miele to match. Miele 30 " convection is a lot more expensive than the Bosch. And how many of you have a Speed oven and what do you use it for? Currently, we use a Microwave to heat a bowl of soup, or warm up coffee, or reheat leftovers. We roast a lot of chicken and use a Convection oven..same with fish. We're a retired couple so it's mostly the 2 of us, and wonder how often we'll have a crowd and use everything at once. Plus, we're moving to FL and will have a good grill with a rotisserie, so will have that option too. Also wondering about a plain Microwave +Combi Steam+ Convection set up. But we're thinking that for resale value, we should have a Speed Oven. Can any of you tell me which appliances you use the most and do you have any experience with Bosch cooking appliances? And has anyone out there ever installed a wall oven under a cooktop, rather than buying a slide in or built in stove?

I don't know the answer but I am curious. if I were you (and having the benefit of hindsight) I wouldn't hesitate to call any of the Miele USA "Experience Centers" and ask to talk to any of the design staff. If you are in the US start with the Princeton, NJ center, their US headquarters. Even better if you can get to a center. The staff at these centers are a world apart from anyone you'll encounter at any appliance dealer, they use the products for demos and classes and typically have the appliances in their own homes. And it's their job to know the details on what you are asking. And report back and let us know. First of, congratulations on your good deals for these three units. They will serve you well. For ventilation and wiring purpose, you will need a gap at the back of the shelf behind unit. For combi steam oven, this is where the oven sucks in the air in. It will vent warm air to the front underneath fascia. So following diagram #1 looks fine. For the sentence "The cabinet housing must not have a back panel fitted behind the installation niche", this must be from a newer manual of the combi steam oven. For example, see newer 6805 manual vs older 6805 manual. In a version that I have it uses "Make sure there is no back wall behind the building-in recess" which means that there should not be a cabinet back wall right at the cut out area. See picture for air intake in combi steam manual in installation section. In terms of installation each is 18" tall, just need to be arranged such that coffee machine is not too tall, and speed oven not too low. Perhaps somewhere where the bottom of the combi steam oven is a little bit below bench top level. A combi venting warm air at the front is not an issue for comfort. I have only combi steam oven in my kitchen and its bottom is at the bench top level which is very convenience, but that would put coffee machine a little too high up, if it is going to be on top. My Miele SO allows you to set the micro timer up to 10 mins per operation. That should be sufficient for most needs. I had a very intermittent issue with the micro function. (3 times in 16 months). It only happened to me once in month 16 where I saw the error message the other two times my daughter was using it. The error resulted in the oven restarting and all was good so not a show stopper as far as function. I called MIele and asked what the error was. They told me it was an expensive repair and since was I "slightly" out of warranty (1 year - did not purchase the 5) they would repair it free as a one time goodwill which they did. I was very pleased at the service. I use the oven almost daily as a small oven and it works as well as my combi steam in the non steam modes. It is a great small oven.

I have the microwave range hood in the house that I bought. Always had a counter top microwave before.

Right now, when I am cooking with a second person it is a bottle neck. I'm stirring something on the stove and they are opening the microwave. We are in each others way. Others seem to love the setup - I really don't like it at all.

I am renovating my kitchen in the next year or two (maybe longer since my furnace died this weekend).

I heard about and considered the speed ovens. I have a small 10x10 kitchen, so space is limited.

The idea of a small sized oven and microwave combined seemed ideal for a small household - I live by myself, but most nights I have a dinner guest.

I really thought about the meals that I prepare. How often I use the oven - could it be my only oven, do I need a second oven?

Truth is - I need one full sized oven and a microwave. The second smaller oven just simply isn't necessary and wouldn't save enough time or produce enough energy saving to be worth the investment.
