Granite Countertop to go with Maple Cabinet?
Comments (13)My kneejerk reaction is that with both colors of cabinets, you are looking at a wood with yellow undertones, so I would avoid a granite with deep orange or red undertones. However, your question is really broad in scope. What is your vision for your kitchen? Have you taken the Sweeby test? There are so many directions you can go with your countertop choice that would work well with your cabinets, which is why you need to develop a vision. I speak from experience on this one. And it didn't help that I fell in love some very different granites. Part of my problem was that my kitchen was SOO bad, they all looked good by comparison. Besides going to stone yards, it might help to look at more kitchens to have a better idea of what you like. Pretend you're a home buyer and go to open houses this weekend. Visit the fancier remodeling companies in your town that have demo kitchens, even if you know it's not your budget. Invest in some magazines and books from Home Depot or Barnes & Noble. Your library may have a few but most of my library's were too dated to be helpful. I used sticky notes and then went over my faves with DH... Ultimately, I found two or three inspiration pictures--one of them was a kitchen here on GW. Oh, and when shopping at the stoneyards, take a door sample with you; Home Depot checked one out to me. It's hard to remember color precisely. HTH...See MoreWould Flooret Sutton go with Durasupreme Shell Gray maple cabinets?
Comments (5)Look to the COUNTER TOP colours and undertones to HELP with the floor colour. This is the simplest way to get a kitchen to come together without the help of a designer. If the counters are 'creamy' you will need to figure out if the undertones are yellow, peach, pink or orange. You will then go floor shopping to find a floor that will mimic those undertones. You don't have to go 'white' but you will need to get everything into the right undertones. If you have decided on the floor colour, you will then work upwards. You will need to pick the cabinets that work the BEST with the flooring (ignore your 'wish' and go with what is a visual match) and then find the counter top that offers a great accent to BOTH products. You will be AMAZED at how much darker a cabinet 'looks' once it has been installed. A mid-toned cabinet (which is MUCH LIGHTER than what you have chosen) will turn a step or three darker once installed. Especially if you have a light-midtone floor and a super-light counter top (yes...I said super light). Mid-toned flooring (the Sutton is a light-midtone) will DARKEN a space. A mid-toned cabinet (your choice is DARK) will then turn DARKER because the floors have DARKENED the space. And if you add a super-light counter top, you will ENHANCE the look of the 'darkened' cabinets because you have added CONTRAST! Ever notice how something like 'chocolate' brown looks DARKER when coupled with SUPER WHITE? That's because the CONTRAST is enhancing the look of BOTH objects. The chocolate colour looks 'almost black' while the white looks SUPER white. They play off of each other. That's why I suggest working with a LIGHTER (not super light...just lightER) cabinet in the COLOUR tones of your floor (which is quite yellow...with a hint of silver = will READ yellow). Once you have those two working together you can go counter top shopping. And remember the LIGHTER the counter top the MORE you will ENHANCE the depth of colour of the cabinets. All of this without going 'dark' like your original choice. If you are having a hard time 'seeing' undertones, you will need to take a friend with you (someone who you feel has great taste and is able to 'throw together' an outfit without thinking about it) to help with the coordination. Which means you have to have samples of EVERYTHING with you as you go cabinet/flooring/counter top shopping....See MoreYeah! Going to update the kitchen!
Comments (4)An update to the kitchen begins with a serious discussion and plan: Also a budget. Do you love the layout: This means APPLIANCE and storage and your functions. Do you love the cabinet color? What hardwood with it? Don't peck at things you don't love : ) Honey oak isn't great with gray, unless a very WARM gray, leaning green versus blue. White is great with gray...........See Morewhat color floors to go with natural maple cabinets?
Comments (12)Yes, I understand it is a weathered looked, but it has both warm and cool colors. I have not found a slate LVP that doesn’t look cheap. The non-weathered wood LVP are either too warm or gray. Would love ideas with brand and names, so I could find them in person. Thank you, Unique, that photo looks like my photo, in reality, mine has a lot less variation and is warmer. My iPhone changes the color a bunch....See MoreDiana Parzik
