Add a front porch
Comments (113)Because, I think it’s pretty. I thought there were lots of things that were pretty when I was creating my house but that doesn't mean I used them all. Good design doesn't mean you throw everything you like on a house. It means choosing a few elements and then pairing down so those few elements become the star of the house. Otherwise your house will wind up looking like a woman wearing too much makeup and jewelry. Or as Coco Chanel said, "Less is more."...See MoreHow would I add a screened porch in the front of my house.?

Comments (11)One could not know how to reshape the bed by looking at half of it, or seeing it at an angle from a distance. Return to where you took the first picture. Move in closer but where you can see the whole first floor of house and the lawn. (You'll be standing on the parkway or near edge of walk. OK to turn the camera to vertical format.) I don't know if there's anything about your area that requires different, but that's the reason you don't see them elsewhere. Do all the yards there have these things sticking up like that?...See MoreDesign dilemma- front porch add on
Comments (9)What a charming location — except for the view of the neighbors. I would be more concerned with screening my view of them than how the house looked to other people. Take away the railings and add a pergola, Eztend a large garden well into the lawn. Plant tall flowers (I’d even grow some vegetables like sweet peas!) and layer in some trellies for flowering vines. Create a kind of room out there, one that is mainly open, both in the open ”walls” and a very airy pergola-roof. On the other side of the house do a window box, or a wide 3-tier planter under the window. Get shutters that are actually functional....See MoreRelated Professionals
