Help needed to paint old furniture on my old-house front porch
Comments (27)Thank you Jane. You have a lovely porch too. I love your willow furniture. You are lucky to have trees to shade it. Ours gets morning sun and can get quite warm very early one. One of these days we want to close in our sleeping porch off the master bedroom with storm type windows all around to make it more of a three season porch. We've not used it in years. Used to go out there in the evenings. I used Windows Paint to the above virtuals. I have an original version of PhotoShop that came with one of those pens (by Bamboo) that a friend gave to me since they already had PhotoShop. I think they run around a hundred dollars or so. I've not looked at them for a couple years now. Both Adobe and Corel have free online trials of their photo editors. I've tried them both and liked different things about each one so I never made up my mind which to buy. Now that I have the Adobe from my friend I should ask for the Corel for Christmas from my hubby....See MoreWhat kind of roof to add over front porch?
Comments (12)Love the look of sketch with metal roof! I had not realized those high windows were even there. I do wonder how the rain gets moved off that porch roof section down to main roof & gutters. If you had to add downspouts or gutters that might spoil that look. I’m trying to understand Norwood Architects suggestion of shed dormer with lower pitch - is that this look but lower where it connects to main roof? What happens with those great windows then? Your home is very pretty. Yes, those shrubs by the entry do need trimming as they got too comfortable & grew!...See MoreDesign dilemma- front porch add on
Comments (9)What a charming location — except for the view of the neighbors. I would be more concerned with screening my view of them than how the house looked to other people. Take away the railings and add a pergola, Eztend a large garden well into the lawn. Plant tall flowers (I’d even grow some vegetables like sweet peas!) and layer in some trellies for flowering vines. Create a kind of room out there, one that is mainly open, both in the open ”walls” and a very airy pergola-roof. On the other side of the house do a window box, or a wide 3-tier planter under the window. Get shutters that are actually functional....See MoreHow to dress up front door/add shelter/small porch?
Comments (13)Hi- I think it would be very nice if you could have a covered porch on one side of your house, or even running the length of the entire front of your house. Who cares if it is not "the period" of your house? I don't think your house is some period masterpiece whose value will be lowered by the addition of the porch. Only you can decide if you have the money to pay for that sort of project, and if the months out of the year that you can sit outside with a cuppa and a book nad/or with a neighbor make it worth it to you to spend the money. Note, I don't even mention re-sale value. Because what is important is the pleasure it will give you, that is number one. (I am assuming that building a porch won't detract from the house's value.) Please be sure to use an experienced contractor, get three bids, etc. You can have one side with a porch swing if you like that, or a couple of rocking chairs and foot stools, and the other side with a table and chairs and a bar cart/tea cart. From the top you can hang several bushy hanging plants. If you do this sort of porch, you don't need a portico as the door will be covered by the porch....See Morepartim
