Coffee Table Dilemma

Hi Everyone,

I could use some advice.. We've decided to use the RH Thaddeus Marble/Forged Brass Coffee table in our living room. Love it. We had the large 52" square table delivered and while it worked with our setup of two chairs perpendicular to a 7' sofa, it took up way to much of the room. We're trying to decide now if we should get the 24x55" rectangular table, the 32"x55" or one of the other sizes..

I've attached two photos of a rendering I've done. One shows roughly the 24" deep x 60" coffee table with an ottoman, the other shows the space empty.

One of our fears is that the 60" will be too long (though there is still about 15" between the first chair and the short side of the coffee table if we were to have that.

My fear with the 55x32" version of the table, is that we have to move the coffee table out too far from the sofa to be able to have the short side centered on that first chair, and it moves everything further towards the dining area.

Personally, I'd rethink using one coffee table for both seating areas. Why not have the coffee table for the sofa space, then consider purchasing end tables (or small drop leaf style) with reading lamps for the chair areas. Having a coffee table sufficiently large for both seating areas would make me remove the small table and chairs, because it would look out of scale to me.

For sure don't worry about alignment with a chair. You will shift the chairs when you sit in them. You will stand at other vantage points in the room. You will have other stuff.

Beth H. : , we love the idea of the console table against the wall near window, and the stools underneath. And also like the styling you suggested. For the fireplace, we were thinking of a round mirror as the anchor. We though about a large (55"x40") abstract painting in the wall on the right side of the fireplace (which has similar dimensions than the one on the left). We hope this provides balance with the console that will go in the same wall, on the left side of the fireplace. Whould this work?

I prefer the nutmeg one. I’m just afraid to mix different wood colors. That’s why I wanted to get other opinions. :) I didn’t want everything to be too gray either. If I selected the gray set.

I’d adjust the loveseat first as suggested above. Do you have anything else for the room yet? Pillows? Art? I think both coffee tables are fine. It will make a big difference once you accessorize the room a bit. Then maybe one will work better than the other. Do you plan to put anything on the coffee table? If you don’t have anything else for the room yet I’d spend some time looking at photos and figuring out what appeals to you and what direction you want to go.

Thank you both. Following the 2/3 rule on the sofa to coffee table ratio, I think im going to go with the 55x32.. then the chair will fall where they will.. We'll have a matching end table to the side of the sofa and the first chair as well.. so that should help..

Would you go with an even smaller coffee table? They have a 48x28 as well.. They also have a round 36".. though that might a bit dwarved by the 7' sofa..

Put your coffee table the other way...used by the three seater sofa. Keep the red ottoman by the two chairs.
