Cambria seams - what is OK?
Comments (6)There is nothing wrong with seams in the hands of a good fabricator. I have two on my Dynasty display and they are completely invisible. They are both the S curved "Euro" type seams, and the fabricator used the laser template system so it's absolutely perfect. I would have zero fears about doing the same in my personal kitchen. Parys is a color without much movement though, and the more movement a stone has, the more visible it becomes. That is not to say that it will be visible at all. Just more so than if the stone had less movement. The caveat to getting "perfect" seams is that it all depends on choosing the right fabricator. My fabricator is also the regional distributor for Cambria, and every bit of the product comes through his hands for the whole region. He is required by Cambria to maintain a certain level of annual training, and to provide great customer service in Cambria's own surveys. Cambria requires that for him to remain a distributor. I'd suggest finding someone similar in your are if you can. The second part of a perfect seam is cabinets and floors under those counters being perfectly level in all dimensions. If they aren't, then you may have to have a shim or two. It's not the end of the world if it's just a small shim, but if you've got major out of level issues, you're not ready for counters. Check it yourself, side to side, and front to back. The entire run. Especially around the L portions. That's where it usually bites. I don't have any closeups of the seams, but here you can't see them at all. Here's a closer shot of the small corner that DOES have a seam there. (I have to get closer than 18" to even see a shadow where the seam is located.) Let the expert do the job that his expertise suggests. Even if it involves seams. If your fabricator is good, you won't have any problems....See MoreSeam Help! Cambria
Comments (67)I don't think people are expecting perfection, invisible seams or miracles to be done. That's an invalid argument, imo. The condescending statements and inferences to intelligence are uncalled for, serving only to spark counter attacks rather than discussion. Typical from certain posters but the average person knows it's unnecessary. Oldryder has started another thread that proves that point. Professional in his job and workmanship, professional in his communications. Do you ever see anyone taking issue with his posts? I don't think so. And he gets it. I don't think he has anything to be defensive or accusatory about because his customers don't need to complain. He has achieved and demonstrates professionalism. He takes responsibility for the job he has chosen, and chooses to master all dimensions of it. If something should happen to go wrong, he handles it. I call that a professional. One that can command high wages that many others also do but haven't earned yet. (And that doesn't mean I think a professional is someone that should know or absorb everything, on my account; as I think a lot of these arguments come down to money. Who pays for the mistakes). Comments (12)Fabricator here. Wouldn't be happy with this AT all. I would request for the owner of the company to personally make an appointment to view this job and see if it's up to "the company standard." My guess is it will not be once they're confronted. Like someone above said, Cambria is very choosy with their fabricators. We recently had a job where a customer wasn't pleased with the material, and Cambria personally sent a rep along with our install team to figure out the problem until the client was satisfied. Keep pushing until they get it right. The seams can be made MUCH tighter and lighter than that. It's sloppy work and you deserve much better, especially considering how pricey this material is. Honestly between all of the issues you've described, I would be expecting a redo on the fabricator's part....See MoreQuartzite Countertop Seam Not Matching
Comments (29)"Well I am curious why the fabricator would not consult me on the difference of color? Are you a contractor? If so, what would you do in this position for your client ?" As I mentioned earlier, your fabricator's biggest mistake was not properly setting your expectations. I am a contractor with several decades experience in the countertop industry. I would never have put myself in such a position with a client. I remain dumbfounded at the crap the natural stone industry gets away with and the decades-long excusemaking for them by customers who have fallen in love with a particular stone, no matter its suitability as a countertop. I don't know how these guys sleep at night....See Moreklw402
