Do you live in a large town or city? Even though your builder is only providing a small sample, you should be able to see larger pieces or even full counters of both those granites at kitchen cupboard places or granite yards. You said in your other posting that you don't know how to negotiate with the builder. I understand that sometimes they can come across as pretty inflexible in their allowances and their upcharges. But, if you came in to a meeting with a couple of other quotes for those granites I would think he would be open to hearing your argument for a price break on his $1400 quote. I think that $1400 EXTRA for a counter of those relatively common granites is higher than you should have to pay. The first house that we had built (we were in our twenties, our builder was a SOB and even swore at me, which 30 years ago, was a rude awakening for me at the time), I had to learn to stand up for myself, and we installed the wood floor ourselves, to save money and to get what we wanted. EVERYTHING is negotiable. You are the customer, you should get what you want!

Redsilver, not only are we talking about a material being somewhat different, we are talking about character of materials, which can change drastically based merely on shape. Go into any stately major building that uses stone floors -- be it cathedral, palace, historical ruin, hall of government, etc. -- and you will never find this rustic flagstone look. That's for a reason. Instead, it will be something that looks refined and/or sophisticated. As another example, sculpted carpeting was for several decades the rage and/or just popular. Now it's almost never used because its character does not match the level of sophistication most people's tastes have developed. In general, the flagstone look is the sculpted carpet equivalent of stone flooring. That's the argument against the material itself. But K & D also made a great argument against the use of multiple competing materials within a confined space.

If you’ll be changing the countertop at some point, it would be a waste to install a tiled backsplash now. (Plus you technically already have a backsplash and tiling above an integrated laminate backsplash never looks right, in my opinion.) As far as the walls are concerned, I wouldn’t do an accent wall nor would I wainscot the bathroom walls; I think you need to keep it as simple as possible, otherwise it’ll look cluttered. Really, if I were you, I’d focus on: -repairing and decluttering/organizing -replacing the lighting -painting the walls and trim in light, clean-looking colors (if Kilim beige works, use it!) P.S. It looks like you did a good job on the cabinet stain which couldn’t have been an easy task!

Floors are going to be Cerdomus Rectified material Navaho color is cream. 8” x 40” tile hardwood look. Very neutral with taupe undertones over the cream. Kitchen counter top is similar taj mahal but much lighter with same undertones. It is leathered.
