Paint color for kitchen with espresso cabinets Pictures included

Hi I am new here and have a question. I am repainting our kitchen and bathroom which is in the kitchen. I decided on possibly ShErwin Williams Kilim Biege and also have paint samples of Nomadic Desert and Latte but think maybe they would be too dark. I stained the cabinets Espresso last year so they are staying as is. Previous to this had a goldenrod type yellow and a accent wall with Sienna red. Now the walls are primed in one color I love how light it looks and possibly Thinking of not doing an accent wall as it seems to have opened up the kitchen to look bigger Also with the light color. I may possibly want to paint the trim around the big window the color which matches the cabinets In dark brown. Would that be a good idea? Now just looking for neutral as we will be getting house ready to move in a few years. I figured I’d like to start some rooms now so I can at least enjoy it for awhile. Right now walls are primed and waiting to be sure I Make the right decision. I have made way too many mistakes with this house in more ways then one and need to get this one right. We also bought backsplash tile which I included in the pictures but will put that up after I paint. We will also be buying a new sainlless sreel oven soon. Our kitchen is separate from dining room and din8ng room and living room are open together. Next year will be painting those rooms. Can anyone give me advice if that color is ok or can suggest another one. We do have a big window also which lets in light. The bathroom is also shown and need color for that too. We will be doing wainscoting on the bottom half of the wall in the bathroom so need a nice color for the top half. Eventually we may change counter tops but not right now. Some of the pics are dark as it is rainy today so there is no sun. Please excuse the big mess in the kitchen

Hi, don’t see another thread on this, but all of the paint samples you show are too dark (considering you want to lighten your kitchen up a bit). I would stick to a warm, creamy white that goes with your floors/counters. Definitely do not paint the window trim dark brown!! What is the trim color throughout the house? White would be OK (if same as rest of home’s trim color), or paint kitchen trim same color as wall.

I am glad to hear the feedback that the procedure worked. It has been over a year and everything is holding up great. I went down to Home depot and bought thin aluminum angle iron and sanded it to make it look like brushed nickel 1 inch X inch ï¿½ mitered the edges and trimmed the bottom of the cabinets. Ill post pictures ï¿½ it looks awesome. I even had my house appraised and the appraiser added the value of the cabinets as brand new as all of the other models in the neighborhood have oak cabinets. Anyways to answer your question, and I am not a wood expert I just posted my procedure because it worked for my application and saved a lot of money and steps that the "pros" would suggest What I found is that the pores in the wood will absorb paint in my naked/unfinished cabinets thus requiring primer. Originally I premiered one of my bathroom cabinets and the primer seemed to create a rough surface and fill in the wood grain. It turned out just okay. I finally took oak door in my kitchen and tested it without the primer but sand down the glaze on the door. I didnï¿½t get crazy with it I just hit it with the rotary sander, sanded the detail with the sanding sponge, cleaned and painted. I then compared the door primed and not primed and found that the not primed looked significant better and more wood like, meaning it was hard to tell it was painted. And a year in a half later the paint has held up to usually kitchen ware and tear. So to answer your question what I would do is take a door and prime the back and not the front then paint both and compare ï¿½ whichever one turns out better go with it. But in my opinion if you knock off the glaze and paint following my procedure you will find that this will be more wood like with fewer steps involved with great results. Tom

Actually, I think espresso-colored cabinetry is already dated. It was a look inspired by boutique hotels, and those hotels don't even have that look anymore. Note that many of boxerpups beautiful pics don't exactly show espresso cabs, but rather simply dark wood. And I think dark wood is a different animal. Perhaps your solution is a white island. You and your husband each get your druthers, and while that mix isn't brand new or unique, I personally think it's less seen-it-a-thousand-times-on-HGTV that all espresso. However, any finish can be made more timeless with great finishes and great design. And maybe something unexpected.

I think my cabs are darker than yours. But you can look at a lot of kitchens in the finished kitchens blog and also at marble.com. My cabs are maple with SW Bronze Walnut stain. sorry to say i am not a fan of any of those granites, but if i had to pick one, i would pick the one without any red specks or red/pink/peach/gray undertones. i would get the one that read "earthy" the most...browns, creams, gold and some black, but not gray. i would do everything i could to go and pick out my own slab b/c i wouldn't want to be disappointed when it came to be installed. you are going to have a pre-conceived notion of what its going to look like and if it doesn't, you are not going to be happy. i know that's how i would feel. maybe if you don't need a full slab, you can use a remnant and it might fall into your budget..try anything to pick it out yourself, you will be much happier.. HTH :)

I will have to check I edited my post But didn’t think it would duplicate it.

Laura the trim is white throughout the house. Right now I have a pinkish sort of beige in the dining room which I hate and a beige wallpaper which I will be changing next year so I thought the Kilim Beige would be good for that at least that combined room since the colors look off.. I have a mix of woods in the other room of oak and some darker accents

If you’ll be changing the countertop at some point, it would be a waste to install a tiled backsplash now. (Plus you technically already have a backsplash and tiling above an integrated laminate backsplash never looks right, in my opinion.) As far as the walls are concerned, I wouldn’t do an accent wall nor would I wainscot the bathroom walls; I think you need to keep it as simple as possible, otherwise it’ll look cluttered. Really, if I were you, I’d focus on:

-repairing and decluttering/organizing

-replacing the lighting

-painting the walls and trim in light, clean-looking colors (if Kilim beige works, use it!)

P.S. It looks like you did a good job on the cabinet stain which couldn’t have been an easy task!
