Outdoor Kitchen Patio Construction

I'm looking to design an outdoor patio for our ranchstyle home. We have plenty of space. We have a square area that's 20'x20' that butts up to an area that's 24'x17'.... we want to have a fireplace, island and outdoor kitchen..... with all this space I want to figure out the best layout....

Have you done this before? Checked out any layouts online? Have you considered hiring a designer experienced in this area?

I have not done this before.... We have an architect that will be doing the patio cover design for the city permit.... but the design of the inside is what we want to situate

Hello. we are in the process of building an outdoor kitchen. There will be a corner fireplace and along the outer edge we will have an outdoor cooking area/kitchen. We have purchased a 36" built in grill but I am wondering if I need to purchase an "outdoor" refrigerator. The area will be under roof and built within a stone island, but I think we may need to spend the extra $$$ for the fridge rather than the dorm size mini fridge. Any help is much appreciated. thank you.

Great ideas so far! Our smart pergola by Arcadia has really helped facilitate needs much like yours. We find a lot of our clients hesitant to give up one thing over another due to either the pergola itself, the space, or restrictions. Yeah, I have to squint but I think I see what you're talking about. The problem with putting the dining area behind the kitchen is that the kitchen will be totally closed off from the outside with little natural light, which would be a problem for me. Also, I'm not sure about your concern re conversation; either people are in the kitchen during food prep, or they're at the table eating, not usually both at the same time. The only proximity issue is carrying food from one to the other. I'd leave it as is.

If your architect is not able to do so, you may need to find a landscape or outdoor kitchen designer who can.

Some or all of the utilities for this project may need to go under the patio. Make sure you have conduits in place for all utilities (water, gas, electric, phone, cableTV, & internet) before construction of the patio. And don't forget any pipe that might be needed for drainage.

A designer is going to be vital for this given the size of the spaces you described. You would be amazed at how quickly outdoor kitchens eat up floor space, and "fireplace" can be anything from a compact prefab unit to a massive, Game of Thrones-esque hunk of stone. It's not just about what fits, it's how usable is the space.
