Help deciding on pendant lighting over dining room table

Hi,

My wife and I are first time homeowners and are currently struggling to decide on pendant lighting for our dining room.

We’re looking for more of a transitional style and plan on removing the existing chandelier. We’d like this room to be more of a casual space for daily dining.

Table is 84” by 37”

We're undecided between the following 36" 5 cord pendant light chandelier

RH 20th Century Factory

Each Pendant: 8" diam., 10"H (without shade)
Cords: 16'L
5-Cord Ceiling Plate: 5"W x 36"L

Or

A series of pendants from the following collection

7.8in x 15.7in

6.5in x 11.8in

4.92in x 6.89in

We love the style of these however we're unsure of how many would look good for our table length of 84", if we should keep them all the same or mix and match between two sizes or all three, how best to space them and or stagger different heights, should we get a canopy for them or just do separate ceiling mounts?

And finally, is the wattage too low on these to be anything more than purely decorative? The wattage is listed as 3w LED, 14 w incandescent or about 150 lumens. We have recessed lighting in the room but wouldn't want to depend on that always to see our meals. We'd like a warm glow in the room from whatever fixture we choose.

The RH chandelier is final sale which has been making us hesitate.

Any thoughts, opinions and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any hindrance in placing a rectangular shape of chandelier?

I will say Edison bulbs are the most horrible lighting ever and there is areason they went the way of the dodo . I like good lighting that actually lights the table and the other thing with Edison buls is they cast a yellow glow on everything so colrs you love in the daytime become yucky at night. I need to see the rest of your home this is one space and needs to work with the others I am getting no feel for your style except for atable.

It's better to have a light that is slightly too big than one that's too small, plus the structured and open design of the Restoration Hardware means it doesn't take up as much visual space as other designs might. I think the Restoration Hardware pendant is actually the better fit for your table--the Ballard one risks looking too small against the whole table, whether or not the leaf is in it. If you did decide to go for the cool industrial black and brass chandelier, I'd recommend buying two, imagining your table divided evenly in half and then mounting each chandelier so it is centering its half of the table.

Hopefully whom ever put in the your hall light left extra wire in the electric box in the ceiling and you will not have to rewire. Look around your Lowes or Home depot they might have some gold chain. Even though gold is coming back in style, sometimes it is still hard to find and so many different colors of gold. Or if your husband installed it maybe he saved the remaining chain. You picked a nice fixture. Look for something that complements it. From your pictures the foyer looks open to the living area. I would just go smaller. The shadows Sam is talking about, is the shadow the light casts on the ceiling and walls when it is on. Yours is fine. I seen one light shadow that looked like a boob on the ceiling. lol Oh yes I am for easy maintenance and comfort.

Assuming that the existing track is in the correct position (over the table) and you don't want to mess with the ceiling electrical, you can attach a pendant to a track. For example, this Progress adapter (from which a pendant can be hung) attached to a Progress track. This simple WAC pendant attaches to a WAC track with a track adapter (option 2).
