Comments (5)Does "formal" imply you have another space for tv watching? A family room? Or is this the only room for tv? If the former? Make the tv more secondary........use an adjacent wall. Better by far as the need for built in expense will be less, and same with media console and tv. As below...and I will hope that is the case. - you've another tv spot. Truly....... the view into the room is far better this way in EITHER case. A room needs to make CONVERSATION possible; nobody wants to shout at another off in the distance. And that love seat can just as easily be two VERY comfortable chairs. One quarter inch to a foot below. Don't forget a great rug.....9 x 12. Lighting matters.......art matters. : ) The very last thing you need? An accent wall via paint. One paint color will do it.....please. You will get more help if you post some inspo pics of rooms/styles you love. There are no mind readers here......See MoreLayout help needed for a unique Victorian living room
Comments (2)I recently visited a friend with a design background. She moved into a beautiful old home with a long rectangular living room that has a fireplace at each end. Rather than placing one of her sofas across the middle of the space, she has a sofa against each long wall, except on opposite sides -- one on an interior wall and the other under a window (does that make sense)? She added chairs and coffee tables to both areas, creating two distinct social areas, but didn't box either space in. Each is still open to the other so people and conversation easily flows. It's hard to explain but I'll bet a Pro can do a better job. My friend mixes old, new and interesting furniture pieces and artwork to great advantage. but then, she has the eye and the talent to pull it off. I have a feeling you do too. Comments (8)If this is the only room for a TV, the you need to decide where the TV will go for the best viewing. The sofa will go opposite that and then you can deal with what is left over. But if your hear is set on a 60" dining table you will need a 120" diameter space for the table and dining chairs around it.....that being said, place your dining table to accommodate what you want your dining area to be, then place TV and sofa. As you make one decision, may other possible decisions will fall away. Some examples of dining in a great room. 1. Floating near sofa and kitchen 2. Circular dining area, but still floating. 3. great room next to round dining room 4. dining table between kitchen and family room areas....See MoreHU-187528210
