Should my bar stools and pub stools match?

Should my 3 bar stools for my game room bar match the 2 stools for a nearby pub table that will be beside the pool table? The bar and the table will be about 8 feet apart.

They don't have to match, but they have to play nice together.

I am not trying to be a smart*$$ really. This is something that I run into with clients all the time, and I am not quite sure I get it, and believe me I don't ever work with anyone that has an unlimited budget nor do I have an unlimited budget. But it looks like you spent a Lot of money on that kitchen, Viking, Granite, Kitchen Aid, zero radius stainless sink....why cheap out on two stools? You can't even take the kitchen with you if you had to...a chair like your dream chairs, you could Sell if you got tired of. Those chairs won't really lose value like regular furniture. I have a client who is on her Third set of cheap dining chairs because she refuses to pay for what she really wants. And I am not a price snob either, her counterstools are from Target and they work fine. However, her kitchen, even though I designed it myself, is much more "ordinary" than yours.

Leslie! I love your checkerboard game! Can't believe how quick you are with getting things done. I have to talk about them for a month before I finally get started. ha I guess I just have to work myself up to it. I like the bottle caps. Still haven't decided what I'm making mine out of. Mine will be on stone out in the elements so need to do something that will hold up. I think I see a pretty bowling ball peaking out thru the slats of your porch. I love your swing! You did a fantastic job on it. I like that green color better than the other and you had a good match with your fabric. I know you are going to enjoy it now that it's more to your liking. I think yards and houses are always a work in progress so little changes here and there as you go make a big difference. We always have to budget and save our money to do things so we are finally getting vinyl fence estimates this week so we'll have some privacy in our back yard. You don't know how many years I've been waiting for that!! ha Then we can get started on beds and things back there. Sorry went off on a tangent there. But really...a great job on all your things. ~Anj

What Color Bar Stools for my Island?

Hi suzyq! Yes Beth has been a huge help to me. I like the gray as well. I actually like a lot of the colors. I think once the paint is on my walls and I can see if it looks more blue, green or gray I can make a better decision. The problem with the grey legs and also with wsea's suggestion is my floor is this: It looks like there is gray in it but on our pieces it looks like light wood, I do not see gray in it. I feel like gray legs and the wood inwsea's suggestion would not match but the gray top of the stool would. I thought the darker legs might look better with the floor. So many elements to match up. I could also look for black on black as some thought might look really nice. I like almost all of the colors of the stools, I just need to figure out which one would look best with the island, countertop and wall color. Thanks for all the suggestions, links and opinions, I appreciate all of them!

What bar stool would look good with my dining chairs?

Depending on your family and life style I would avoid fabric covered anything. The dining room seems to be significantly easier to keep chairs really clean in vs the stools at an island in my experience. For us when we did our kitchen which is open to the dining area I wanted the stools to be very low profile and not be the star. I wanted the island and the colour of it, which is a dark grey called iron mountain to be the star. As a result our stools are actually chrome bottoms and then acrylic see through on the top. With three kids I need to wipe them often but everything always wipes off...I shudder to imagine if they were fabric!

It depends on the stools.

Matching is fine. It's safe.

Complementary is fine. Complementary could be better, or not. Complementary done right will show more of Jill's great design style.

I hate to say it, but those two stools don't play nicely together. These look more like you bought some stools, and then you bought some more in a similar color. Like you couldn't find the first ones again, so you settled.

A little more contrast between the two would be better. With some element that is repeated in both stools, but not necessarily in the same way.

Edited to add: Here is an example of what I mean (just two pictures I found on Wayfair, not suggesting them for anything):

See how the stools are the same color, even though they are different shapes. The color would tie them together.

Here are two more:

Stool 4

See how the wood and white (assuming that's a white and not a cream!) are flipped? The chair version would really go well with Stool 3 -- not so sure about the stool version of this one.....

Anyway, these are just for illustration any....

I want to use the first stool for my bar that I posted. The picture is of the pub table I am thinking of getting. Can you give me an example of a stool with a back that would pair well with the pub table as well as the other stool? The table has a gray top.
