How do I make my pothos look more full?

I started a brand new hanging pothos plant from scratch, gathering a bunch of cuttings from neighbors and friends. All of the cuttings I received, however, are pretty long. When looking at store bought pothos, or ones that weren’t started from cuttings, the top of the plant is more full and luscious.

How can I recreate that luscious look of the original pothos with my cuttings?

Coil a couple of stems around the pot and pin them to the soil. They’ll root. Ensure it has sufficient light to prevent etiolation.

Give it time to grow. A little fertilizer and lots of light will help immensely. The next thing to decide once it does start growing is what to do with it. Here is my biggest one that is probably 10 feet long (the leaves get bigger if allowed to climb a tree or other structure). I tie it to a tree in summer and then gently pull it off in fall to bring indoors for winter.

In the photos all the colors seem to appear grayer/bluer than I would expect from how the colors normally appear. That does point to a lighting problem. Not enough natural light combined with not enough indoor light, and maybe not the right color temperature of indoor light. If you have LEDs in your ceiling fixtures, it could also be a problem with poor color rendering (LEDs vary a lot in their color rendering index, or CRI--look for 90 or higher). If you have LEDs, I would check the lamp characteristics first. If the color temperature is above 3000, or the CRI is below 90, that could be your problem. I think Herbflavor may be right though: Your current lighting seems in adequate. Your kitchen would probably benefit from more lighting fixtures (recessed cans) and more total lumen output. Warmer color temperatures (2700-3000K) should help bring out the yellow in the Ivory Lace.

I would need to see a better close up of the rug that is staying, but to give you an idea of updates that would help. Paint in the lighter blue color, or the ivory, cabinets, walls and ceiling. You can leave the center ones darker, and if that blue matches the one in the rug, then that works. For the backs of the cabinets, put a nice ivory/light blue damask wallpaper that matches the cabinet paint color and ivory in the room and rugs. Replace the mirror with one like pictured below. Update all the pulls with crystal ones like pictured here. Update the lamp to a crystal one, and replace the fan with a crystal chandlier. I keep mine bushy by cutting back long strands.

yes.. keep cutting them back.. so they keep branching near the media level ..

and of course.. root the new pieces ...

if you look at the larger ones in the stores.. you might be surprised how many cuttings they have jammed in there .. and thats why the look so full and lush ... but that isnt their natural proclivity ...

I coil some of mine back but they have a mind of their own at times.

I bought this as a golden philodendron years ago but it looks like a pothos. In summer it grows anywhere it wants to and in fall I pull up the longer vines as carefully as possible and coil it back on the coir lined basket.

This is what it looked like in 2015 - guess I cut it back after that year.

To get the ultimate full look like you see in photos, keep chopping and propping until you get in the range of 15-20 individual plants in one pot, then prune them back a little as they grow when young to promote branching. With patience & fertilizer you'll have world class epic baskets. :)
