Hi Rina, Great find, looks handsome. I'd think it'd be fine to change the mix so long as you do it dry. I'd just crumble the mix off the roots w/ my fingers, getting off as much of the old mix as possible. Place in into new mix & knock it hard in the pot against the table to settle the mix & the plant. Maybe you could pls post pix of the roots? It'd be interesting for us all to see.

there is a plant propogation book i have wherein the author describes his own mist system. that author has a large black coil of hose in the roof of his greenhouse so that water can be heated before reaching the mist nozzles. that's at least one vote for using warm water and keeping the cuttings reasonably warm as they root. just thought i would toss that in! lol. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted by: mosaic z8 LA (My Page) on Sun, May 11, 03 at 11:59 With such a setup you could probably root roses under mist all winter here in Louisiana. My batteries did last all season last year, but it was only opening that valve 4x a day for 3 weeks, and then 1x every 4 days for a couple of months. And even though I had a pressure regulator on there, I kept having a problem with the heads blowing off! (Their drippers work perfectly by the way so it's nothing against the company) I ordered foggers from Misty Mate this year and they put out a super fine fog. Perfect for propagation. They are a litte more expensive than the ones from Dripworks but worth it. And if you ask they will ship the misting heads for $1.50. I went to HD and bought a 10-24 tap and drill set (3.00) and drilled holes in my 1/2" cvpvc and the heads just screwed right in! I bought a Melnor timer at HD for $39 and it has 1 minute spray options so I've got it set for 1 minute every 10 minutes. Can't remember the model number but it's not the one on the HD website. I hope to finish my new propagation box soon. I built one on a stand this year so I can move it around easily. Wouldn't you know, HD has plastic sheeting made just for greenhouses that I used! It's not the real thick heavy stuff either. It's only 4mil and is crystal clear see-thru! Hopefully I'll be finished this week!

Congratulations! I would first carefully pinch off the flower bud. It very likely won't be very attractive and it will definitely sap strength from the plant. You are spot on about gradually removing the bag so the plant hardens off. If you're having rains right now and the temps are not extremely hot or cold, you can easily harden it off under the rains. If not, keep it where you have it, but lift the bag gradually, to expose it to less moist, less controlled conditions until you can completely remove the bag. The plant is going to show you whether you're doing it properly or not by how it looks. Plants will "talk to you", if you watch how they respond to what you do to/for them. Learning to listen with your eyes is the key. Good luck! Ya done good!

Thanks, Deanna. Of the 4 leaves left of the original plant, 3 are browning and shriveled. Don't hold out much hope for those. I will follow your advice anyway. Meanwhile, BJ's Warehouse gave me a new sans. They didn't have the totally pale yellow ones left like this original one, but they had one with only a pale narrow green line down the middle as well as the narrow green edges. I took that one home. I also stopped at Home Depot and scored a half-price on a pot containing a trio of variegated jades (looks like 2 varieties) and some kind of pretty round-leafed pointy succulent with orange-red tips, as they were wilty from lack of water. I need MORE houseplants like I need a third arm, but what can I do? They called out my name!
