Neither. Vinyl is a cheap crappy way to finish a cabinet interior. Wood can be problematic with water resistance and roughness. The ideal material for a cabinet interior is high pressure melamine, whether white to match the exterior, or a natural maple as is done on most cabinetry. It's super easy to maintain with just a wipe. It's water resistant, and it's durable. And it's not a high cost either.

For what it's worth, my old kitchen had 20-30 year old WoodMode cabinets with metal drawers like yours, and they were in absolutely fabulous (perfect) shape, even at that age. (Kitchen was tiny and ugly, so they had to go...) They worked perfectly, held considerably more stuff than 3/4" thick wooden drawers, and were excellent in every way. I'd choose them over wooden drawers in a heartbeat -- even for a moderate upcharge. But that said, they shouldn't have been a surprise to you. I'd seek clarification from an independent source as to which costs more, and from your KD, which style your order specified (if any). IMO, you certainly shouldn't be charged more for a drawer style you didn't specifically authorize, and a good KD would have reviewed all of the options with you so you could choose the one you preferrred. My best advice? Know that these are really, really good drawers. If you haven't been taken advantage of financially, I'd see if you can learn to like them, now that you know they're really, really good drawers. But if you can't learn to like them, you should be able to get them replaced, seeing how they weren't what you wanted.

Wow did you find lots of great inspiration photos! I especially like that kitchen by Tineke Trigg. I've saved all the photos I could find of that kitchen and the adjoining dining room. I still haven't 100% confirmed what the final design will be but I do really want to bring in some bold colour somewhere! I love that comment your builder made about your KD. Ha ha...

Michele - Here is a wood kitchens idea book with different floorings in some pics. https://www.houzz.com/plans/wood-kitchens-pp~543268?stepId=saved In my own kitchen I went with old fashion 2 1/4" solid wood flooring throughout the main level (except tiled front entry and powder room). While not trendy, my house and cabinetry are older and it seemed to blend well with the older elements since it is the floor seen in older homes - some over a 100 years old. I went with natural oak as it worked best with my cabinets and doors.
