Need help improving the appearance of this home
Comments (15)Frankly, any changes that would make a substantial difference in the appearance of the house will cost so much money it will likely end up over improved for the area. Painting the garage and adding flowers will improve the curb appeal of the existing structure but will not significantly change the appearance of the house itself. Unless it is less expensive by $20k or $30k as compared with similar houses in the market area, you will essentially be "losing" the amount of money it would take to remodel the outside into something else. If you love the location and layout enough for this to be your forever home it would be worth making expensive improvements as the cost would be amortized over many years. You could remodel the whole house in the style of the garage Jcl posted above.....new roof, new siding, architectural details....all it takes is money :-)...See MoreUgly Roof Line - need suggestions :)
Comments (4)Some people convert these to garrison colonial style and build a new roof on the top. Or they disguise the overhang with a pent eave: This was discussed a few years back, and this example was posted: I think this still tends to look like a disguise. I think houses like yours look better with nicer roofs, like certain kinds of metal roofs....See MoreSuggestions for improving the front of the house -- Please Help!
Comments (0)We are in escrow on this beach house and are just beginning to consider ways to improve the appearance. The house itself has a flat roof. I don't really understand the purpose of the painted blue shingles in the front. (And as bad as they look in this picture -- they look worse in person!!) The blue fabric area to the right has been installed over the old wood shingles. Many houses in this area have a deck off the front. That is not possible with this house because it was built on old set backs and is already too close to the street. The house inside has a bit of a mid-century modern feel. Thank you in advance for any ideas you might have....See MoreWould love ideas on improving the appearance of our home
