Help deciding on cased openings to split up open floor plan?
Comments (12)For some reason I'm not getting replies sent to my email. Lots of great responses! I'm definitely planing cased opening and not paneled jambs. When we get slab poured and everything marked out I will mock up the furniture placement to decide on the casing to the right. All permits are in so hopefully this will be in the next month. Nini, I think your living room might be one I was admiring while we were planning. ;-) everyone seems to be doing fireplaces on interior walls so I've been nervous since we moved ours to the exterior wall. Hope it looks half as nice as third!!...See MoreMid Century Modern open floor plan...design ideas? Please help me!!!!!
Comments (6)This is my living room....11ft wide by 19ft long (from the stairwell.) We are struggling to find a furniture plan that will work with this long and open living room. The picture is taken from the front door entry. On the left wall (which you cannot see) is a large living room window 4'x8'. We are hoping to have a built-in constructed wall to wall on the far end of the living room. Cabinets on the bottom, shelving on the top, and an opening for our media. We need the storage for our young family of five. Around the stairwell to the right is an open doorway to the kitchen. On the far back right is the dining room--which is open to the kitchen. Right now we have a very small sofa (~50") floating at the closer end of the room. Two chairs are to the left under the window. It works but it feels like a waiting room! I'd like to have a console table on the narrow wall to the right (between the opening to the dining room and walkway to the kitchen.) I'd like to have this room sit 4-5 people as we're planning on finishing the basement to represent more of a lounge space for the family....See More10' accent wall in open floor plan, design decor advice needed
Comments (58)@Beth H et al.. yes, and I'm really thrilled with all of the recommendations, everyone has style and it's great to see varying opinions. So I don't want to think anyone has wasted their time, I think down the road in the near future, we will go with something built out pretty much like you were suggesting early on. As we just finished the remodel within the last year, we are not up for building anything out or even tiling the wall at this point. We don't need new furniture at the moment (kids will ruin it anyway). For now, we were looking for something minor / superficial, if that's the correct verbiage. While we know now, that it may not look "perfect", it's where we're at now. That said, we don't want to do anything (now) with the fireplace, what we are open to is: some type of shelving (which would have to be shallow in depth, I think), definitely plants (faux preferably), artwork or like I mentioned (which may have gotten lost), is maybe B&W canvas print collage (I'm a part-time photographer and we have zero photos of our kids displayed). We are also open to putting a small corner piece to the left side, but it would have to be very small footprint as we only have about 12" from the wall to the lightswitch near the slider, but after hearing/seeing some of the plant options, I think we prefer that. Another note, we (I) have a floor subwoofer to the right hand side, you can see my wife's aerogarden sitting on top of it until we find a home for it :) Hopefully, that helps, again, I really do appreciate everyone weighing in and taking a lot of time for the mock ups. -Matt...See MoreWindow treatments for open concept - design help needed!
Comments (5)question,,,why do you have that sofa against the windows, when the wall opposite has nothing? Right now if you were to do any type of drapes, they'd get bunched up behind the sofa. can you flip it and take another pic? (that sectional is actually too large for that narrow space, but lets see how it looks on the other wall). do you have a rug for that space or a coffee table or ottoman? this is a similar long, narrow room like yours. look at how it's arranged for the windows next to fireplace, they are too narrow for drapes, so i'd do your woven wood blinds there. just do an inside mount. (and you don't need to cover every window) some ideas for woven woods, and drapes if you want to try a combo on the others. this would be nice near the dining table. you could also do Silhouettes or Pirouette blinds Plantation Shutters patterned drapes over plain white blinds. cellulars. if you move your sofa to the other wall, you could drapes like these on those windows...See MoreTennessee Interior Design and Decorating
