New KitchenAid dishwasher not drying
Comments (35)I got a new KitchenAid dishwasher a couple of months ago. My previous dishwasher was also a KitchenAid which only lasted about four years and then the motor died. With the old dishwasher until it stopped working the dishes were always completely dry and there was no moisture whatsoever on the inside walls of the dishwasher. I’ve tried every cycle with this new one and I do extended dry and use rinse aid. andAt the end of the cycle, the dishes are wet and The stainless interior including the door very wet...Plus the dishes are not as clean as they should be...See MoreKitchenAid Dishwasher Door is Locked... Help!!
Comments (2)As Sandy (Breenthumb) posted in the other thread I gave this a go this PM with a long screwdriver. I pushed the plastic handle as far as I could to the left, and then poked the screwdriver as straight up as I could toward a point 1/2" to the right of the center of the dishwasher door. At the same time I pulled out on the door with my left hand. Guess what? It quite easily opened after about 5 minutes of poking around. I washed the dishes that were inside (for a couple of days now) and then brilliantly closed the door again. So I got to try a second time, and it was even easier. While I have written this thing off, I thought I should look inside the door to see what went wrong. All you have to do is remove the top 4 Torx screws from the stainless panel inside the door. The plastic bullnose pulls off once you reach inside to undo the electronics connection. I did pull the power breaker before starting the poking around bit. As it turns out there is about a 3" wide plastic part in the center at the top that you push up on to release the door. It is quite large so releasing it with a screwdriver is highly probable. Hard to miss it. The plastic door handle which is item #9 in the drawing at the link below, holds the release rod (item #5) had the small plastic clips broken which held the release rod in place. It fell loose and that it why it was not working. I think it could be repaired by replacing that ridiculusly priced $48 piece of plastic. The control panel itself (item #1) was cracked too in the area of the handle, but I think you could repair that with epoxy and some fiberglass. So thanks to Sandy for the suggestion, and I hope this helps anyone who has the same problem and finds this thread. Comments (21)We, too, had a workhorse KA dishwasher. I fairly wept when it gave its swan song after 20+ years of washing dried on cheeses, tomato sauce and other malodorous gunk. We purchased a new one, bought the extended warranty and had a service call within two months. Control board went. Frustrating part was that Lowe's told me that no matter what died, it was covered. Well, it was covered, but I couldn't get anyone to come out. I'd make an appointment, and the company would cancel the night before. Finally, I called Lowes, told them about it and they sent someone right out. Currently, the little happy chime doesn't signal denoting the end of cycle .... probably signaling another service call. Sorry to corroborate your experience, PKguy. I've become so cynical. I hear energy savings, it only uses a teaspoon of water, blah, blah, blah and I just put up my hand like a traffic cop, thinking "Please. I'll be replacing this in just a few years." Comments (9)Maddielee: I have the same dishwasher as you -- the cycle time sounds about right. Do you run the hot water from the tap first? That should shorten the cycle a tiny bit. But I agree with the others -- longer cycle times are typical in the newer dishwashers. I put mine on after dinner and don't even use the heat dry. My dishes are sparkling clean and dry in the morning, so I'm a happy camper. (It's my first dw in 13 years, so forgive me for my excitement...right now I think it's the best thing on the planet) :-)...See MoreHU-55295251
