Insulation board between furring strips on exterior facing wall?

Hello, we have a row home built in 1920. We are working on an exterior facing wall that had two layers of rotting drywall, which we removed, on top of original plaster. The drywall was rotting because of a basement egress which was exposed to the elements, which we've addressed. The wall is solid brick.

The plaster is in bad shape, but I would like to avoid removing it. I would like to add as minimal additional depth to the wall so I am considering 1" furring strips with rigid insulation board in between, and 1/2" drywall on top.

Does this method pose any issues with moisture?

Is there a better method to provide better insulation or vapor barrier?

Thank you
