Comments (19)The wedding was last week- and although I did expect it to be wonderful it was actually way better than that. Still floating from it- but wanted to thank you all for your help. I am really limited with people to seek advice from and you peeps were superb. I ended up wearing the diamond solitaire necklace which is quite understated but present, a thick yellow gold bracelet from my deceased mother in law, a beaded purse from my deceased mom, and gold filigree drop earrings with a bit of bling to them. My hair was up ( I had been undecided but it was the best thing as I sweat like pig when I dance a lot- which I did - and I still looked like I stepped out of a shower but it was ok- we all ENJOYED). And, yes I wore the wedge shoes which were terrific. Everyone was taking off their shoes and I was totally comfy and chic. thank you...See MoreJewelry box weeding and organizing
Comments (19)Here's the story about her jewelry. While all the pieces are wearable, they just aren't very fashionable, or they're difficult to wear. There are a few large pins (my favorite is a lovely Art Nouveau design with an amethyst-colored stone), a locket with her pre-marriage photo at 19 (she was born 1886), a detailed gold bracelet, and two bakelite rings. I like the idea of sewing or pinning them to the backing for display so they aren't ruined, but they don't need to be removable until I give them away. For my regular jewelry, can you tell me what you think about using one of my husband's political button display boxes? I can't afford to buy an expensive jewelry box right now. It is $30 and has a walnut wood frame -- very simple but would fit in with the antique furniture in our dressing room. The backing can be replaced. I know the hinges and clasps are clunky looking, but they seem sturdy enough to handle opening and closing on a frequent basis. If I wanted, I could even apply something to help tarnish the metal. It measures 12"x18" and can be hung on the wall. My husband can always use it when I upgrade to a nice jewelry box....See MoreJewelry Opinion Please
Comments (28)I didn't really answer your questions, so... 1. ...is the three stone ring a fad...be better off getting a nice size solitaire with a classic look? What's a fad? The "best and newest" design today will be considered a "fad" once the next "best and newest" design comes out next week. The classic prong set solitaire was designed by Tiffany in the late 1880s I believe. Rings with three stones have been designed for centuries, too. A solitaire is beautiful; if that's what you prefer. And another way to look at it is nearly "everyone" has a solitaire. 2. Do smaller diamonds in bands fall out more easily? Properly set stones are going to stay set, no matter how big or small. On the other hand, all jewelry should have the settings and prongs checked twice a year because they can get bent or broken and cause the stones to loosen and fall out. The inspection doesn't take long, and should be done at no charge by your jeweler. Which looks better, white gold/platinum or yellow gold? The one that looks the best is the one you like the best. White gold, even really good white gold, can take on a yellowish cast over time. It can be buffed and plated and kept looking great. Also, white gold is supposed to have a yellowish cast because it is GOLD, and gold is yellow. The other metals mixed in turn it white, or pink, or green, or whichever color of gold they're blending for. 10k gold is a different color from 12k, 14k, 18k, 22k, or 24k gold, too. 10k or 12k white gold looks "whiter" than 14k or 18k because they have a larger percentage of the yellow gold in them. Different karats of yellow gold have different shades of color, too. It's all a personal decision. I love the look and feel or 18k gold. I have exactly one piece of 18k. The rest of my jewelry is 14k or 10k or plated. Platinum is a nice white, too, but it tends to go grey over time. This is natural and normal. Some people love the look; some don't. A good jeweler will give you samples of all options and then you can decided which is your favorite. The only person that has to love it is you....See MoreUser
