If I did not shave I would have a full mustache. It still leaves me with a dark upper lip but better that what it would be if I did not. Most of the hair removal things like would leave micro scars in my skin. I did see where some use microblading to remove that halo of hair on the cheeks by using a very sharp knife blade to remove both the dead skin and hairs. If any of you have seen "Dr Pimple Popper" on YT there was an episode where she did mention that there was nothing wrong with women shaving their faces.

When bored I will look at anything which is how I saw that segment.

I have had several of those wand shavers and discontinued using them because they irritated my skin. My fuzz laid down from the small amount of air movement that they cause.

A few months ago I had v-beam laser for rosacea and shaved my face that morning because the last time I had the procedure done, I could smell burning hair! It's possible the smell was coming from another room where laser hair removal was being performed, but I'm pretty sure I was smelling my own peach fuzz go up in smoke!

Anyways, I told the dermo while she was zapping me what I had done and she said to me, oh, that's great! I'm glad you did and btw, try to shave your face daily because it will make a difference in how you age and your skin care products will get to work better not being caught up in peach fuzz. She also said that's part of the reason men tend to age a bit more gracefully, because they shave. It's the gentle exfoliation process that is effective. Other reasons too, but this is one.

So, I set a razor (just a regular one, nothing special or fancy) in my skin care area to remind myself to shave the peach fuzz, and I can't ever remember! But my skin did feel much nicer that day that I did shave for the treatment. Maybe this thread will trigger me to remember...

I read that Elizabeth Taylor did this regularly and the studio heads freaked out that she would cut or scar that beautiful face. Her skin did look beautiful.

I tried it after somebody here on Gardenweb mentioned doing so and it's worked quite well - costs practically nothing, easier than chemicals. I still have to pluck a few of those wiry ones on my chin tho - they seem to grow much more quickly.

Funny, today I was listening to a podcast about women and shaving and how initially razors were only marketed to men and women relied on depilatory creams and powders which could be very dangerous, so when razors for women were introduced, they never mentioned shaving, only 'smoothing'.

I did for a little bit- my chin. The two little pinch spots on either side. It started years ago with plucking an odd hair or two... and that turned into few... and, sigh. They all got wiry and dark :( I was plucking weekly, maybe 10 days. Years later and the menopause is starting to creep up, and that did not seem to be helping my chin hairs any.

This year I started with the shaving- using one of those little electric eyebrow shavers with the tiny head. That only lasted for a day or two between needing to shave, and I only did it for a couple months. Less ouch than plucking, but almost as time consuming to do it well, and needing to do it way too often for me.

Went back to plucking. But now I use a growth retardant cream daily, and that has helped make the hairs finer, lighter, not so long.. and now I can go around a month between really needing plucking. I got a dentist appointment this week, so I'll pluck and have a nice chin for the hygienist :)

Guy here, hate shaving, VgQn bought me a triple header 2 years ago and that does make it easier but it's not as close. Since retiring I just shave every 3 days or so. The only plucking I do is my ears, but it comes back too., what's with the hair on these old ears? If I spent 40 days on that Survivor show I'd end up looking like a caveman.

I do because many years ago I saw some tv doctor say it was just as good as any other method. I do it because I kind of cringe when I’m talking to a woman who has lots of peach fuzz on her face and it seriously detracts from her appearance. My schedule is: do it whenever I put a new razor in the shower for my legs use it on my face first. I occasionally have to pluck a wiry chin hair because those things seem to sprout overnight. It seems to be very effective as an exfoliator because my facial skin looks very healthy.

I pluck my eyebrows and some of the the coarser stray hairs that show up around the moustache area. Then I go over the upper lip with a ladies electric shaver around once a week or so. I don't have much body hair other than in those two areas. Haven't had to shave my legs or armpits in over a decade. Menopause took care of that.

If I could remember to I would make sure to pluck more frequently because over plucking permanently gets rid of hair in some places like on your eyebrows. Not sure if it works for hairs on our face but I would be curious and want to experiment with that.

I have very sparse hair on my legs and on my eyebrows. I'm like the bald person who wishes they could transfer the hairs from elsewhere onto their head but I wish I could do it onto my eyebrows. I keep meaning to try one of those hair growth products on my brows. Pretty funny ... on one portion of my face I would like to retard hair growth and on the other portion I would like to develop hair growth.

Depends on where the problem is at the time. As I posted above my upper lip but sometimes between by brows if I can not see where the hair is that is very stiff and catches on my glasses frame. I have been known to shave from my cheekbone downward at an angle to just above my upper lip depending if when backlight I can see a halo of hairs. Recently I have had long thick hairs on my neck which is a new thing. Normally I have my eyes waxed but have not done that since February. I do not worry about my forehead.

Unlike some women I still have hairs on my legs, pubic area, and under arms. The under arms and pubic area have become lighter but the legs for some reason have become thicker and coarser.

I have shaved a few times, but did not like the way the hair felt as it grew back in. It is a myth that shaving makes you grow more hair. But since it cuts, the hair is blunt and can feel thicker. Unshaven hair tapers. I'm sure you all knew that, just wanted to share why I don't like shaving. Instead I use three different products to pluck my facial hair. My favorite is a wire thing that kind of works like threading. I bought several. I keep a couple at home, one in my car (because you never know when that one prickly black monstrous hair just appears out of nowhere), and one in my purse. I use it everywhere on my face below my eyes. I love this thing. I like it so much that I also keep one by my chair and use it while I watch TV in the evenings. I don't have to see what I'm doing. Just twist and release and move to another spot

My mustache, yes. I thought I was doing a good job until my daughter and I went to Nashville a few years ago. We stayed in a hotel that had a bathroom with a extreme makeup type light around the entire mirror over the sink. It was terrifying.

I'm familiar with threading. Not had it done but my in-laws are big on facial threading. It fascinating to see it done by an elder professional. But the do-dad you show that looks like a peach colored q-tip, does it have a name? I'm wondering if one of my daughters would like something that as she used to get her eyebrows threaded when she lived in a different area.

You have a routine that sounds like it works for you. I'm going to try to remember to shave at least in a while for skin health. My dh has beautiful skin and he shaves 5 days a week.

SEA SEA, look up "spring facial hair remover". Here's a link to one on Amazon. There are quite a few different ones. Some cost as much as $30. I can't imagine it would work better than a $5 one. I mean, it's a spring. You don't want to use one on your eyebrows, though. You can't pinpoint a specific small area. I've bought some for friends and they all say it hurts. Hello, plucking hair hurts! And you're plucking many at once. But I got used to it rather quickly. I still feel the pull, but it gets less over time.

I must be the hairless wonder. I don't have peach fuzz or any stray hairs on my face. I did notice I rarely have to shave my legs or underarms anymore as I did when I was younger.

Remember the TV show Ugly Betty? I read that they made beautiful America Ferrera "ugly" by darkening the area above her mouth, as if she had dark hairs, among other tricks. ☺ Lightening that area with makeup is still done on cosmetic tutorials. No one wants peach fuzz or long chin hairs. ☺ Right!

What??? I've never heard of a woman shaving her face unless she had serious hormone imbalances.

Lily, I rarely have to shave my legs or underarms anymore, either. I remember offering to shave my mother’s legs for her when she was laid up from a fall, and she said she didn’t need to anymore. I’m also blond so any hair that does grow is short and practically invisible. (Why does the hair on my head go grey, and the rest stays blond??)

My hairdresser waxes my upper lip and chin hairs every 5 weeks when I get my hair done. In the meantime I use a small pair of cuticle scissors to clip those hairs in the chin. I had chemo a couple of years ago and lost all my hair. that was the only good side effect.

Thanks Donna! I'll pass that info onto my dd. Yes, plucking does hurt, as does epilating. I epilate my errant leg hairs (had laser hair removal years ago on my legs) a few times a year and in the beginning it hurt, but soon, I really couldn't feel a thing. We used to joke that between the laser and epilating, my nerve endings died off lol.

My family is largely women, lots of sisters and aunts. And none of the women shaved their faces of had any reason to.

I too have never heard of this. Bleaching and plucking, sure. I do the former on my upper lip, but thankfully don't have any thick wiry hairs. I have peach fuzz elsewhere on my face, but it's very pale, so it has never occurred to me to try to get rid of it.

I did electrolysis on my upper lip many years ago. Now I may bleach it every once in awhile along with my sideburns...which probably no one notices except me. I have ONE stiff hair that just started a couple years ago...I caught it the other day just starting to make it's way out and when I rubbed my finger against it, it felt like a splinter. That one, I do have to pluck.

There was a movie where a woman got a hot shave from a barber (cant remember which one but Im pretty sure it was foreign) and then it came up again in the South Korean series Mr Sunshine on Netflix. They showed the whole hot shave with the towel and the straight edge razor going over her face. It looked so relaxing and just like dermaplaning that it makes me want to try it.

This reminds me of a very good friend who would bleach mustache and whatever other hairs on her face that she could see. Unfortunately, she was very sensitive to any kind of constructive criticism and all of her good friends knew that we couldn't tell her that she needed something more effective than peroxide!

So we didn't tell her. And then she got glasses. She was horrified, believe me.

Pluck the coarser hairs, but use one of those spring epilators that Donna showed above for the rest of my face. Sometimes I use a homemade sugaring solution the same way you would use wax with fabric strips. I've always had a lot of peach fuzz and it didn't bother me so much in younger days, but now that I'm older, the hair makes my face look and feel drier and lotions/creams don't absorb nearly as nicely as they do on a smooth face. Make up also applies a little better on a hairless face.

It's no wonder that many people haven't heard of needing to shave ones peach fuzz and pluck ones coarser hairs. Apparently it is around 15% who are affected by the hormonal losses of estrogen. The other 85% apparently are not. Unusual yes to require shaving plucking or however you do it but not unheard of. Everyone has peach fuzz on their face but it is not as noticeable on everyone's face.

I tried using wax strips and it badly irritated my skin.

And yeah - it's not my entire face, just around my mouth. The hairs are practically clear, but were getting very long and very noticeable.

My original post disappeared. I have never had a hysterectomy and have hard hairs on my lower chin most of my life. The halo on my face has been there since my 40s. My last period was in my 50s.

Well, I gave it a go. Did it two days in a row. My face is like a baby's bottom. So nice, so smooth, looks very nice. I have a feeling that if I put on light make-up, it would look nice given my age. You know how it magnifies lines you didn't know you had until you put on make-up. But...my skin is feeling tight and dry, as if I didn't put on my moisturizers--I do three layers. Hmm. I may not continue as the dryness/tightness is a little uncomfortable.

I don't have noticeable facial hair, but I do have peach fuzz that can be noticeable in certain lighting conditions since menopause. Dh will say I'm fuzzy sometimes if the light is just right. It doesn't bother me.

So, I think for me, I'll give it a rest and maybe, perhaps once in a while, I'll do it again. I wanted to give it a try because my dermo says it's supposed to be good and somewhat regenerating for the skin and also allows the moisturizers to sink in better. I'll mull it over, but I won't be doing it again for quite some time. :^(

Edit to add: I give kudos to the men. They make shaving look so easy. I find it awkward and I can't quite figure out how to do it in a way that doesn't feel like I'm doing it wrong. I also don't know where to start or finish lol. How high does one go, how low does one go? And the nose...I found it challenging to navigate around the nose.

Shave in the areas where you notice a man's dark shadow. You'll not need to get too close to the nose.

No hysterectomy here either - people's facial and elsewhere hair can be very different, both women and men. I wouldn't judge an entire population by my own personal experience.
