What kind of cushions? What is the fabric and stuffing? Do they have trim that wouldn't be safe in the washer? And what is a 'rocker slider?" Linda C

Saphire I bought a Precedent Microfiber sofa from Marshall Field's about 2 years ago. My sister has a Precedent sofa that I love and the fact that it's a divison of Sherrill I figured I could not go wrong. The sofa arrived on a Thursday, I had a party on Sunday. After the party the sofa felt like it was a few years old vs. a few days. It was very cushy. Not what I expected. Then I noticed it started to eat things; my hair, lint, you name it. I figured since it was my 3rd sofa I was stuck with it. About 8 months later I started looking at rugs and club chairs. I mentioned to my new sales associate that my sofa was eating things. She asked me to bring in a cushion, she spoke to her manager and they sent a technican to my house. He said it looked like I got a "bad" batch of furniture and they could replace the cushion. I said NO because then the cushion fabric would be different from the back. They offered me a replace or a refund. I opted for the refund. This time I bought bought velvet. I am not suprised that the store is being attentive, I am sure they have dealt with this before. I guess microfiber can be hit or miss. Good luck.

I can't see how adding the vents would be a big deal, at all. And yeah, they're the things that go "whoosh!". As for the bigger issue of whether or not to replace the down with something else... I don't know what I'd do, frankly. I think I'd want to sit on the cushions for a bit and then have a "looky see" at how they've incorporated the down and the foam inside the covers. Is the foam loose and the down inside another cover (you know, like a closed pillowcase) so you have two components inside the cover, or what? I might entertain the idea of adding a third layer (crumbled foam? memory foam? something else to "bulk up" the area between the foam and the down... . Down always seems to "settle" and require "fluffing". We routinely shake up the comforters here, and all the feather pillows; I think it comes with the territory. For that matter, any loose, "crumbled" foam will probably do the same thing with time. I'm thinking more in tems of bulking up the mass of what's inside the covers so the down doesn't have as much room to "settle". Make sense?

I see what Rmanbike is saying about the joinery being mortise and tennon and then corner blocked, triple dowled, glued, and screwed. Perhaps they are using a bit of both depending on the area of the frame. You might want to ask the store for clarification and then let us all know as this sounds kind of interesting. Regarding the spring some manufacturers put another rail in the front of the front rail of the frame and then this rail is dropped down about an inch. This is usually used with a plywood frame. Then they use a clip called an RJS clip. This clip is shot on with a gun. Some frame shops if they use the rail have a machine that puts the clip on the frame. I haven't heard of any company still using this system. Southern furniture used to do this but I am not sure if they still do this. They do this so you can arch the spring and give you a softer seat. Some manufactuers also then drive the spring into the frame with a hammer. But I don't know of anyone that still does this. I can't see how you could glue in this type of spring. In my opinion the spring action from a single attachement point would be the same as far as durabilty. Here again I think I would ask for clarification on this point as what they are saying is confusing.
