Fisher & Paykel integrated refrigerators, anyone?

I desperately want a seamless hidden fridge in our new house, but can't afford Bosch, etc. F&P makes a decent-looking 72" x 36" model that's under $4,000. I'm not too concerned about the capacity since we are just 2 and have extra freezer and fridge elsewhere. But I don't want to build in an integrated appliance if it's crappy and bound to fail... does anyone have any experience with these who can review them for me? Thanks!

I have that model on order now. It should arrive in the next 1-2 months.
I desperately wanted a built in fridge for our 80 yo house’s small kitchen.
I spent a lot of time discussing the reliability, value, and look of FP with a couple of people who have been selling appliances for decades. They deal primarily with high end brands so the FP fridge is entry level pricing. They had no qualms recommending the FP except that the ice maker is notoriously slow and it is a small fridge compared to the counter depth model.

I played around with FP side by side with higher priced brands in the showroom literally dozens of times. It is a very nice fridge but not comparable to a SZ, Miele or Thermador. There is more plastic, the doors feel lighter, the bins and control pad are basic. It’s more a Subaru than a Range Rover! That being said, it’s reliable and no other truly integrated fridge comes anywhere close to that price.

Be sure you purchase from a local dealer so you have access to their installers and service team. I wouldn’t buy a FP in an area w/o that support. Even the most reliable appliance will need service eventually.

This may or may not help, but I have had the FP 30 inch refrigerator for 10 years, and am completely happy with it. It’s been problem free.
I love the look, and find the space inside is very efficient. It’s very quiet, and I like the “open door” alarm feature.
I am currently beginning a kitchen remodel, and chose to buy another FP refrigerator for the project.
I don’t know where you’re located, but I do suggest you check on FP service availability in your area.

yolande 1951 and all, The trim kit is for the 20.1 cu ft refrigerator. My kitchen designer had to call Australia twice to get the correct information on which kit was the one for my refrigerator and to discuss the measurements of the trim in regard to surrounding cabs, but we finally have the correct information are are proceeding with kitchen design to accomadate the trim around the refrigerator. This trim is like the picture suggests, it gives the refrigerator a built-in look. A separate kit (joiner kit) will join two of the F&P refrigerators together, then you must use the surround trim kit to complete the look. For the french door that I have ordered, I don't need the joiner kit. It will be a couple of months until we're ready for installation. Keep your fingers crossed that the guy my KD talked to knew his stuff. I'll give my report when we get to that point because I know this is a great solution for those who want the built in look without the added expense.

Good to hear, Zwizzle, since we've decided on a FP for fridge and dish drawers! I'm a little nervous about adjusting to the drawers, but a lot of people seem to love them. The fridge looks very sleek and beautifully designed. The oven, however, is somewhat less convincing to me, I think because we had a very heavy older Thermadore for years, and while we weren't happy with its performance, we did get used to its massive build. And there's so little user feedback available.

Okay, thanks Joe. I must have been looking at an old website as the new model numbers are a lot different. So, in the US I have the option of a unit with a remote or a unit with a "badge" which looks like it has a couple switches on it and mounts to the panel, but is pretty small And either takes or requires a custom panel. For some reason I find the FP information a bit confusing.

isnet these messages to fp. no answer yet. anyone have any answers? The integrated 36” wide refrigerators (72” and 80”h) show same interior capacity (5.1/11.7) on your website and on others. Our refrigerator was installed this month. It’s gorgeous and fits like a glove.
The freezer drawer takes getting used to. I’ve just never had one before. It is small but everything is easy to access. No bags of frozen veggies hidden behind the ice cream!
The fridge feels like just the right size. It discourages hoarding of condiments for sure. Being able to see everything in once glance, because it is shallow, helps with organization.
The vent at the floor is a little annoying. It’s a grey plastic vent cover which makes it stand out against our dark cabinets. I wish it was stainless steel to better blend in. I’m debating painting it the cabinet color. If I know it wasn’t bad for the ventilation I would run the baseboard in front.

Painting the grill should be fine if the paint will stick. Don't block it with a baseboard or obstruct it in any way. The air circulation is necessary to dissipate heat from the compressor.

How did it go with the F&P integrated fridge and freezer? looking to pull the trigger in next few days. Fridge big enough? Happy?

Weve had this fridge for 3 years now. we didnt realize that the ice maker would be notoriously slow, as someone mentioned above. Our 15 year-old KitchenAid fridge/freezer makes at least 3X more volume of ice in 1 day compared to the Fisher Paykel. The FP ice maker isnt broken...it was designed for this low volume. <sigh>

If it helps any, we ended up choosing the Bosch over the F&P and it is the same. Supposedly that is supposed to help the icemaker's functionality/longevity? I actually don't mind it--it also means the noise is less noticeable since it just plunks out a few cubes an hour. But we aren't big ice users and even with an after-market mod to cut the ice capacity in half, I have to dump it once every couple of weeks to clear it out. I can see it being frustrating if you use a lot more ice!
