Updating, need ideas to tie old and new together.... and paint colors
Comments (15)It's a fun place, but you're ready for change. I think the wide dining room stripes are in conflict with the more narrow shiplap, so that's a place to start. If I were going to do more shiplap, I'd do it in the dining room, not the yellow room. You could take it all the way up to the division between the lower and upper parts of your windows, Top it with a plate rail, and then add a nice pop of color at the top, like the cherry red from the chairs. Start a collection of plates to put on the rail. If one of those two DR walls is wide enough for the china cabinet to stand against it, I would reverse the two pieces there so nothing has to be cornered. Unless you're really tired of it, I think the yellow could stay for a while. Think about slipcovering the sofa and chairs in the cream color from the buffalo check chair, and get a new rug and pillows to change the vibe....See MoreWhat off-white paint would tie this all together?
Comments (0)Cross posted from Home Decorating, after I realized my initial presumption may have been wrong--- I'm at the final end of a total kitchen gut job, and totally stalled out on picking a paint color for the room. My old go-to paint for neutral spaces, BM Muslin, is just not working in this room, since I've introduced more blue, black and gray materials. I'm thinking I need a cooler undertone off-white- but it has to play nicely with the existing trim, its more medium brown than the reddish it appears in these pictures. I really want the walls to just disappear because I have a lot of other color in the room. Should I be focusing on a cooler tone off-white, like a soft gray undertone? That's my presumption but I would love some advice. I hate the beige it is now (have no idea what it is, from previous owners). The white is a patch job from a removed thermostat. This windowseat section is BM Muslin, which is irritating me because its reading too beigey-yellow against the blue. The other end of the room, nothing to paint here, but shows what I don't want the paint to compete with! All of these pictures are with east-morning light, but it also gets plenty of western sun from the other side. So I know this is going to be a challenge and require sample paint at multiple places, but I'm stumped where to start/what undertone for a disappear-into-the-background/ not clashing off-white?...See Morepaint color to tie bedroom together
Comments (9)I would do white, the same colour as your closet doors. With your beautiful quilts and green carpet, I think white would provide a nice cottage-y feel and open up the space a lot. Paint all your dark brown shelves white at the same time! Another idea is super light grey. Grey and espresso look great together and your quilt will really pop against it....See MoreHelp needed - exterior paint colors
Comments (4)The gray paint/stain/primer on the siding reads much too cool in the gray range. Something more in the taupe (gray/brown) range would work better with the brick and roof. Look at your brick and pull one of those colors to use on the siding.
