Bluestar electric wall oven reviews, please
Comments (37)POSSIBLE HACK FOR DOUBLE OVEN USERS!!! Might help de-Grinch your Christmas if you need both ovens. I've been having the same double oven issues as many others. You try to start the second oven (doesn't matter which you start first), and the whole thing shuts off and reboots. First, possible solution, then background. Start one oven on bake. Then try starting the other oven on broil. If that works, shut it all off, then try bake on one, roast on the other. Experiment with the modes a little. Mine was NOT working. Now it is, but I don't know for how long. And I don't know if repeating this will work again if it fails. Just something to try. I've had multiple control board replacements like many others. Bluestar has a new control board in the pipeline, but they are having supply chain issues like everybody else. They switched suppliers from Quantem Corp, to somebody else. Quantem is a big supplier for HVAC control systems, among other things. I have a technical background and can do some very basic electronic repairs. We'll need both ovens for Christmas dinner, so I decided to see what I could do. I took the boards out to check for basic stuff like scorched components and bad solder joints. No smoking gun. I put it back together and tested it. FAIL, same as usual. The moment you select the temp on the second oven, you can hear a relay click, then the oven dies. Like a momentary overload condition. Preheating for bake or roast involves using all the oven's elements. Big load. I researched what elements activate for the various modes. I decided to try starting bake on the top oven at 200, then BROIL on the bottom on Low. Broil only uses the top element. IT WORKED! Then I did the same test, reversing top and bottom. Still worked. I flipped the breaker on and off and tried again. Still worked. After a couple more tests, I tried what would ALWAYS make it fail before, bake on the top and bake on the bottom. STILL WORKED. Something about this process seems to have slapped the control board upside the head to get it working. Hopefully, this solution is durable enough to last until the revised control board is installed. We'll see. And I hope this works for somebody besides ME! Regarding Bluestar and the oven, we do like the oven. Yeah, it's a little noisy, but we knew what we were getting into. FYI, the noise comes from a fan deep behind the control panel. All that fan does is cool the electronics. That fan doesn't need to work as hard when you use the bottom oven, so it's quieter then. Yes, it's been real nuisance to have all the failures. There have been adventures with the repair company to add to all this. But through it all I feel that Bluestar has had my back on this. They have been accessible and responsive, going beyond the call of duty at times. Huge kudos to Bluestar customer service and their management. Thank you, and I look forward to finally putting this to bed with the new, improved components!...See MoreMeal delivery options--Omaha steaks? Others?
Comments (15)Thank you for all the feedback. I guess I'm always a little worried that the recipients might have said the food was good to avoid hurting my feelings? I have sent it to my parents a few times though and I think they would have steered me away if it wasn't actually good. Bonnie_ann, I am glad to hear that your SIL also said she appreciated the Omaha Steaks food. I think it is best to steer away from any of the meal kit services because I'm not sure either of them feels up to cooking--they got a double whammy this week. And they are well off enough financially that gift cards feel unnecessary if that makes sense. Thanks so much for all the feedback. I emailed my mom and asked if they had any particular favorites. She usually answers in a day or two so I will plan to place an Omaha Steaks order this weekend and go with her suggestions....See MoreMain meal today
Comments (35)Well I was craving something hot & kind of gooey; had intended to have pea soup but just made Mac &Cheese with some of my tiny cherry tomatoes, spinach, baby kale & spring mix, and a sprinkle of bacon bits. I confess I used a box mix (really no faster than getting the cheese out of the freezer) ; I didn't add any of the butter it calls for though, instead I use fat free sour cream, a Tbs. of parmesan, enough water to make a smooth sauce after the powder is in, and a few grinds of black pepper....See MoreBlue apron or other meal kit services
Comments (23)I think it is worth a go if in a recipe/meal prepping rut. So many options now. Should be a fit for any diet need. Epicurious lists and rates a bit over 20 services. NYTimes as well. Most do have a good discount for a trial box. I would just make sure cancelling is easy. Some offer every other week delivery and most weekly . Many are customizable. Some are more advanced in prep and palate and some just for basic learning cooks but new flavors and kitchen experiences not unlike a cooking class. Carbon footprint can be argued on many levels. Your distance to shopping in person, how many stops needed, etc. Often more packaging in a bag of groceries from a local market. Every stocked shelf item comes in boxes. Shipped from the field to a processor to a central distributor to the grocery back room to the shelf. Lots of processing, trucking and travel hidden in the back room. If you garden, have fruit trees, raise chickens for eggs and fryers, goats for milk and cheese, etc... process for the winter by canning, freezing, fermenting...you've got a good argument about package waste. A couple tomato/veg clam shells, protein on foam trays, plastic bags of basics like onions and potatoes....a plastic bottle of dish soap. I know nothing about plastic manufacturing so I'm just making this up, 😂, but it seems like some single use products could make 30-40 small thin plastic bags....or more. If you purchase pasta in plastic, is goes in your pantry and used later. Empty a single grocery bag of its packaging and it will be equally abundant in wasteful packaging. Far from perfect, raise both hands, but this covid mess has solved so many of my issues using local grass fed meat share including fresh pasture eggs, straight to the freezer, no re-packaging, no clam shells, veg raw in box, no bags, Dry beans in burlap, no cans. Laundry and dish wash and washer soap in cardboard concentrates. Here is a link to a blogger that has a good review, HERE So many available but just picked one random as NYTimes has a paywall....See Moresushipup1
