Chenille plants 'Acalypha' are very difficult grown indoors. They do great as a garden plant, but when potted and brought inside, problems such as dry air to Spider Mites occur. During winter months place in a very bright window. 'sun differs in summer, they'll burn.' They also need humidity and fresh, circulating air. Keep out of hot 'heated' rooms. If you have a cool/cold, not below freezing, enclosed porch, room or basement, new growth should grow without discolored or dry leaves. Avoid over-watering. In summer, 'when outside' soil should be kept evenly moist, but it differs during winter months. I have Chinelle's cousin, Copper Leaf. It's looked better before coming indoors; several leaves dropped. Once days lenghten, new growth will form and leaf color will resume. Chinelle is more difficult than Copper Leaf, but with some work, your plant should be okay. Brighter light, humidity, 'spray/shower leaves,' fresh air, and soil drying between wateriings. Remmove leaves such as the one posted. Sometimes, pruning or pinching is recommended. Chenille's are sold at garden centers, fairly inexpensive. When one is purchased as a house plant, price increases three times higher. Good luck. With care, you should see flowers in a month or two. Toni

i have a sense of humor.. apparently you dont.. i did not chew your head off.. as you say ... i read what you said.. i have bought houses.. i have tried to save a buck by ID'ing what is there.. and i have wasted a lot of time and effort .. trying to 'save' ... what should otherwise be killed ... its a weed tree.. probably repeatedly run over by the drunk next door .. while attempting to park near the curb.. as most plants in such circumstances.. and able to live thru that torture.. it is most likely an invasive.. or nearly so .. and the presumption is.. that it would be a waste of effort to move it .. or save it ... and if one is living on the edge of the road.. i am going to guess that you will be finding others on the rest of the lot.. and if its anything link the siberian elm my neighbor has.. i am killing upwards of two to 300 seedlings per year ... horrible trees that shed large branches in wind and ice storms.. and drop more seeds than maples .... just a total nightmare of a tree IMHO ... i do not waste my time HELPING PEOPLE.. to only be insulted by peeps who complain about free advice ... good day.. and good bye ken

That is VERY impressive. Think of it as the wood cells losing track of which way they are supposed to grow. There was likely a wound there and the encapsulation process went a little crazy. Would I be correct it is a structural problem?

OK, I'm game to start... Your soil test results show that there has been way too much unnecessary fertilising going on in your gardens. You say "Mom used to spend a lot of money on miracle grow garden soil and some kind of rose fertilizer. She would just give that to (every) thing growing in the yard." And " I figured the bottle brush was needing some too, so i poured about 2 or 3 pounds of epsom salt around the tree and waited." There's really no reason for you to throw around fertilisers willy-nilly, without knowing the reason for it. For your bottle-brush (Callistemon) specifically, they hate pretty much ANY fertiliser, but especially phosphorous, which will kill them dead. And your soil test indicates very high levels of phosphorous. Personally, I'd cut that plant down to about 6" high and see if it re-sprouts. They survive this treatment very well and grow back big and fast. (Unless it's already past the point of saving.) In the meantime, I'd stop using any bought chemical fertilisers and continue with what you're doing now, just adding leaf mulch, compost and maybe a light dusting of blood/bone meal. Then, in a year or so, get another soil test done for comparison with this one.
