Comments (32)Oh gosh, DD, you've mentioned that No-No phrase again . . . "Dish Pantry"!! Be still my heart! Now you've gotten me coveting my the broom closet, the powder room or the guest room for one of my own ;^D What did you give up to get yours? It was a closet, wasn't it? A nice long, shallow one? (Sigh!) I don't have an attic or basement. If I'd found this forum before we had the kitchen gutted and redone, I would have added one without a doubt. I'm envious of anyone having enough space to keep their accent pieces with their dishes. Mine are scattered all over the house. My sweet 99 y/o Chinese boy is now relegated to the game table in our living room until I need him for my next tablescape. My santo angel is on the cabinet in our MBR. My Three Kings santos had a run-in with our dobie and two had their heads broken. I'm in the process of mending them now. I do wish I had a safe place to store things like that, but I don't. DH said he'd like a wine cellar, but our smartie-pants 15 y/o DD remarked snidely that it would be a waste, as "Mom would just fill it up with more dishes". I hate to admit it, but she's probably right! Lynn...See MoreMy Glass Cooktop exploded
Comments (38)I have just moved into a new house that has a glass Euromaid freestanding. It is new, and I have used it about three times. I took the tray out of the oven to use it and popped it on the cooktop at the back. I went to turn on the water at the front to boil it and I have accidentally turned on the back element. The glass melted where it was touching the trayand when I have taken it off a huge chunk of glass ceramic has been taken out of the cooktop. $900 to replace the glass! I’m sitting with a decision but I’m leaning towards replacing the stove which is absolutely ridiculous giving that it’s a brand-new stove! Of course Euromaid want nothing to do with it!...See MoreElectrolux Explodes!!!
Comments (41)Ah - TV tubes! When I was young and foolish (I am no longer young), a friend and I found an old TV tube at the side of a quiet country lane. As luck would have it, there was a handy supply of broken brisks nearby. The obvious idea occurred. We stood on the opposite side of the lane, maybe 15' away, and threw a couple of half bricks at the tube. Both missed. At that point I said "I wonder if we should stand a bit further away?", so we moved off another 10 feet and tried again. This time our aim was better - the tube exploded violently, throwing glass over a wide area. Where we had stood for our first attempt to break the tube, we found large jagged shards of glass about 3/4" thick with lethal points and edges. Whenever some mild misfortune befalls me, I try to remember all the bloody stupid things I have done in my life (a good number of which involved motorcycles) and somehow miraculously survived. I think the balance is still in my favour......See MoreWhat Kind of Food Storage Containers Do You Like?
Comments (44)Mtnfever, I just checked my flour containers. I buy flour in 5# quantities as my containers won't hold 10 lbs. I can't lift 10# easily. I do buy the small bags of Bob's Red Mill specialty flours and keep those in plastic bags in the freezer. Cambro rounds-6 liters, 6 qt., use for no-knead bread dough, not flour. Easier to mix in rounds. Cheap at webstaurantstore.com. (Also parchment paper 100 sheets under 5 bucks.) When I put 5 lbs. flour in these following containers, there is enough headroom left on top, so I can put in 1/2 and 1 cup measures and comfortably scoop flour. These containers have lock n' lock lids. Sterilite, -3.8 liters, 16.2 cups Sterilite, 16c, 3.8 liters, 4 qt Rubbermaid, 15 c, 3.5 liters, taller than others I know you were hoping that Cambro would hold 10 lbs. The 8 qt. Cambro would very likely hold 10-lbs, based on my 5# containers....See More- 5 years agolast modified: 5 years ago
