Opinions on tile backsplash - photos incl.
Comments (4)You've got a great space so far. As for matching the fireplace tones, I would focus on working with your countertop and floor. On my monitor there seems to be a disconnect between the color families in the fireplace and your kitchen with the fireplace more pinks and greys and your counter more golds and creams, but I know pictures don't tell the real story. Someone else just posted pics of Architerra tile and it could be a good match with your existing tile. Also, Seneca Tile sells crackle tile with more of an old world feel in a variety of colors, sizes and decos. I'm no decorating guru but from an old house standpoint, tile tended to be smaller in size than many of todays offerings. Try to keep the scale in line with your fireplace - what is it 3", 4" squares? Good luck! Here is a link that might be useful: architerra tile...See MoreBacksplash - combining colors
Comments (32)Hi bmorepanic - like it very much. Here's the embarrasing part (I should start a thread with this topic)-I am cooking far less than I used to :( We still have plenty on our punch list and I'm afraid we got into the bad habit of eating out during our almost year long renovation. So... when I cook on it (and don't get me wrong, I certainly use it daily), I'm very happy but only a couple times have I had the majority of the burners going. I LOVE the size of the thing; I can take two cookie trays out of the oven and use it for cooling racks and still have ample room to cook on the other end. I've only used the grill for roasting peppers so far; but it's summer and it's easy to use the grill outside. Thanks javamom. Love that tile and had a brief fling with it :) but at around $120/SF, and needing a minimum of 35 SF (probably much more with a pattern like this), we broke up. Off to NH today to look at fireclay tile in person... please keep your fingers crossed I find something....See MoreYellow penny tile backsplash- what color walls??
Comments (20)Jillius-- I think I'm getting a bit too obsessed with GW, as I cut-and-pasted your link to Monet's kitchen wondering if I'd missed the reveal or if it took place before I discovered this site. After a brief moment of bewilderment I realized it was THAT Monet. :) I'm on the side of liking yellow (though THAT Monet's is a bit over the top), but our KD thinks it'd be too 'cutesy' with a red vintage stove so is advocating grey cabinets and white tile. I'm thinking maybe soft, buttercream cabinets might work. Fabfivefigs, I really like the yellow tiles, so I'd vote for keeping them with maybe a soft grey paint to tie in with the counter and the open shelves the same color as the cabinets. Comments (26)Carree, I could've sworn I posted a response to your photo but I don't see it there. Beautiful tile with so much character! I am looking into each and every source that everyone has taken the time to post for me. Thank you! Romy, I do like the edge, it's just a little different than what I originally told the fabricator I wanted (ogee stacked on straight edge). He came to template and installed the perimeter counters the next day. At that time he discussed with me his idea for the island edge (it is only slightly different) and I told him to go for it! I will post pics shortly but the ceilings are being sanded and it's quite a mess right now. Hopefully everything but the backsplash will be done by the end of the week and I will post then. You haven't posted final pics of your kitchen yet, have you? Want to make sure I didn't miss it!!...See MoreAMS
