Gray brick exterior with stone ledge and accent wall - yes or no?
Comments (23)"I'd love to stick with all stone but doesn't work into our budget." A big portion of your budget is going to the 3,800+ sq ft first floor - because you have a 3,600 sq ft basement. The total of your first and second floors is 5,710 sq ft. If you built a traditional 2-story house, you would have about 2,800 sq ft on the first floor (this does depend on garage, though). The cost of a basement foundation for 2,800 sq ft vs. 3,600 sq ft is significant. We are also building on 4 acres (in PA). Have just signed a contract with a builder - but spent months and months on research, looking at plans and driving around looking at houses within 3 counties. We considered a first floor master/first floor guest BR/"1 and 1/2" story house - these make the basements large and not cost-effective. As part of our "research", we bought this book: Get Your House Right by Marianne Cusato. It's an eye-opener. The book explains proportions and elements of classic house styles. You may not want a traditional Colonial or Georgian style house, but the book shows you the concepts of how everything should fit together. Just a thought, may not be large enough for you, but much better proportions without being too "Colonial": http://www.dreamhomesource.com/house-plans/dhs/dhsw55092.html If you are wanting the first-floor master, along with first-floor guest BR, this house is amazing and more proportional: http://www.dreamhomesource.com/house-plans/dhs/dhsw52333.html Good luck!...See MoreSherwin Williams Color for Limited Light Space - Mindful Gray?
Comments (9)Why does it have to be soooo hard to choose color?! It's madness, I tell you! I have the same dilemma, little natural light, plus low 8' ceiling. Bought 13 samples from SW (yeah, you do the math!), still can't make a decision :( I was going to suggest SW Amazing Gray, but if you don't want Worldly Gray you probably wouldn't be happy with it either. I thought maybe something with brown or yellow undertones to keep the "blue" away? SW Agreeable Gray read too bluish on our walls as well, so I didn't even bother trying Repose Gray. My favorite gray turned out to be SW Colonnade Gray, it looks beautiful in our [dark] space, but not for the whole house. SW Mindful Gray was a good contender too, but I think overall we need something a bit more beige-ish. Next sample I'm planning to buy will be BM Edgecomb Gray color-matched by SW. It's my favorite in pictures and it seems to go with everything. I also love SW Light French Gray in pics! Please, please, let us know how it turned out... pictures pleeeease!!!...See Moreplease help! I’m looking for a gray “greige” exterior paint.
Comments (8)The houses I’ve seen painted grey and white with the orange barrel roof don’t look “right” to my eyes. They are telling two different stories so I hope you get big samples of both house and trim colors to check this out before you decide. If your tired of the peach a cream with medium to dark brown trim would work with your roof and look more updated and fresh....See MoreStucco exterior, light grey metal roof. Comments (10)Your house is a bungalow style, so if you haven’t already, do searches for ’bungalow exterior colors’ … ’stucco bungalow exterior colors’ … ’stucco cottage exterior colors’ … terms like that. Once you get a few ideas, just look up any stucco house style … ’stucco exterior colors’ for more that could work on yours. Limitless possibilities with a house like this — what looks do you like? What feel are you going for? Charming cottage, stark black and white, organic and natural, beachy, earth tones, funky boho, whimsical, quiet, etc? The roof is a non-entity, anything can work around a gray metal roof. I’m in Texas, they’re used often here, and are just a neutral background. I like these greens, but without knowing your preferences it’s hard to advise. Narrow it down for us. :) This is a good-looking color scheme … white body with taupe trim: https://www.houzz.com/photos/wilton-whole-home-renovation-transitional-exterior-atlanta-phvw-vp~12401900 I love red with cream: Classic yellow: Black and white (or do reverse): Ideas from Kelly Moore paints: https://kellymooreshop.com/blogs/our-blog/sweet-16-bungalow-style Lots of nice colors here: https://nextluxury.com/home-design/craftsman-style-homes/ From that link, I like this a lot. Dramatic, but earthy: If you’re feeling unsure about bolder colors, you can’t go wrong with using a white or off-white for the body and color of choice for trim/accents. Or tan or gray body with accent colors. I always like this look of two accent colors:...See Moredecoenthusiaste
