Round end table instead of marble stand? New table?
Comments (24)Ok. Well my black lamp shade arrived today. I think it's a little too short. I do believe I'm going to change the harp out. It's royally bent anyhow. Notice the crooked shade. Fact - the small table is 20" tall. I think I'm going to change the harp out on the new lamp also and make it a bit shorter. Still obviously need a different shade. The CL lyre table is 22 1/2" Not much taller than the above table. Just checked my email and NEVERMIND IT'S GONE. :( Oh well. Fact - Round table height is 27"H x 22"W I think the black shade lamp looks too tall with the round table? Lamp is 34" I'd rather not part with that lamp. *Note I'm going to buy candle stick things for the arms. Here's a picture with the wingchair and table straight instead of at an angle. I think I like this better. After looking at these pics it's not perfectly straight but you get the idea. My thoughts were to keep the round table where it was in front of the window. Get a different table for beside the loveseat that's not quite as tall.? Does the room look cluttered? Thoughts?...See MoreNeed help refinishing my antique inlay end tables
Comments (26)You did a fantastic job on your first big project, the worry factor is often the biggest obstacle, and proper research helps to overcome this issue...you did great asking the right questions and perhaps you are well on your way to becoming a seasoned weekend refinisher. There is a great sense of satisfaction in being able to "resurrect" old furniture pieces, many can been had cheaply because they're so ughhh! So here are a few extra hints to helps with the next project... 1). Use the powerful, nasty strippers, with methylene chloride, they just get the job done so much better than citrus strippers...gloves n goggles n good ventilation are important, you will love the fast results, use a green scotchbrite pad, rough steel wool, a stiff brush, etc. 2).strip the whole piece, never mind taping off areas unless the finish is pristine...chances are you will been able to do a much nicer job if you take the whole piece down to bare, especially once you learn how to seal, glaze n tone....shellac n stain powders/glazes are your friends... 3).automotive dewaxers are great, like ditzler/ppg # dx330....a big helps in cleaning up after stripping n neutralizing....helps to avoid contaminants like fisheye"silicone" and lets your get a look at the grain and possible spots, problem areas before your stain or seal the piece. 4).while your can always re-strip, sand or undo your work, try to think ahead and prepare...ie, test stain/finish underneath a tabletop first, dont stain or finish in the sun or winds at 90 degrees, read up , but only from truly problem sources, like mike dresdner, etc.. 4).have fun and dont be afraid, we all had to learn to walk and talk. There is great satisfaction in learning how to finish/refinish....drying times, dust free and stain/finish compatibility are the biggies, so dont worry, ask a lot of ??? And dont believe everything your hear.... 5).cheers, holla at me if ya want...veryspecialprojects@gmail.com....I only have three decades of finishing wood under my belt, but I'll try to help if I can....aloha...See Moreneed ideas for new coffee table and end tables for living room!!
Comments (5)What you've done thus far looks lovely, the dining room is yummy. Most of the living room is done well but I have a little issue with the balance of the room. In the photo ,looking straight on to the sofa, I see that it's not centered on the wall and the chevron pattern chair seems crowded. Is it possible to center the couch and move your heirloom between the two windows to another spot. Take the chevron chair and put it at an angle up near the window more to the right of the window. Then take your heirloom piece and place it to the left of the sofa. Just a suggestion....See MoreMy "Nothing Fancy" Quarantine Trunk Club
Comments (22)“Otherwise it will be "yoga pants" and sweatshirts every day. How many weeks do they say it takes to make a habit?” Three weeks... 21 days... ask me how I know 😎 Yesterday DH and I went to a drive through birthday party. Good friend whose son turned 21 set up their circular drive as a hilarious party. Never getting out of your car you could honk as you entered, give a virtual hug to the birthday boy and hand over your gift (note with bespoke limerick written by me containing a check and a bottle of champagne wearing a new masculine fabric face mask) where they went into quarantine for a week, get a piece of coconut bday cake in disposable cups with plastic spoons, and at the last station get cherry Jell-O shots made with vodka, contsining a maraschino cherry filled with fireball whiskey. There were also shots labeled “unleaded” for the drivers, they had been made in those little short, clear plastic cups with tops that you get ketchup in. Drive in, drive on.... 45 seconds and a good time was had by all. They kept the “party” open for an hour between 7 and 8 pm. It was a blast! Gosh I digress in a big way, my point was that this was the first time in ages we had seen other people except walkers in our own community. We dressed casually but nicely and I completely forgot to put on my watch, earrings or any other jewelry! It did not even occur to me ....I committed a crime against accessories 😥...See More- 3 years ago
