Bathroom Vanity Tile - Do we need tile behind the toilet?

We have a small upstairs master, where we added a wet room. We are now tiling behind the vanity, which shares a wall with our toilet. We have read differing opinions about whether we should be tiling just behind the vanity or take the tile all the way down the wall behind the toilet.

To complicate matters more, we originally decided to go with a darker tile and a double herringbone deign to really pop. As you will also see we added an LED mirror in the room to add additional light, we will also have two wall sconces above the mirror.

What that brings us to is two questions:

1. Should we tile just above the vanity, or should we take the tile all the way to the end of the wall behind the toilet?

2. Is the herringbone design too busy, and should we instead go with a simple brick look or maybe a single herringbone look using the same tile?
