GE Profile panel-ready, or JennAir panel ready
Comments (12)Judy, we did see a GE Profile panel ready and I think it was metal sliders but to be honest I need to check it again. We like the adjustable pull out shelves and liked the bottom freezer three drawers better as I think the Jenn-Air had only 2. I do not know how the panel are mounted on either so need to check that. The handles are just not a big issue for us. I just saw yesterday information on the Fisher Paykel's (#RF201ADUX)new French door bottom freezer and liked the look and the information on their website about it. So I will give it a look for sure....See MorePanel ready dishwasher or stainless steel?
Comments (21)I want to set straight the statement that Jakzof3's carpenter said about KA panel-ready dishwashers, for people who may be shopping for a panel-ready DW. It is NOT that KA dishwashers "are not as nice paneled". These sorts of blanket statements bother me (by the way, since it's paneled, doesn't how "nice" it is also depend on the panelling itself?). Anyway, the difference between KA dishwashers and Miele or Bosch is that the KA is about 1/2" deeper than the european dishwashers. It holds more than european dishwashers too--just bring some of your dishes and pans to a showroom, and you will see. But because the KA is slightly deeper, it will not be exactly flush with your base cabinetry if your base cabinetry is the standard 24" deep. This difference is not noticeable in a stainless steel door, but it would be noticeable if you are panelling the dishwasher to blend with your other cabinets. People on this forum have reported digging out the drywall behind the DW by 1/2" and getting the paneled door to be flush that way, or using a thinner panel, and making it flush that way. We bought the panel-ready Kitchenaid knowing in advance that it would be slightly deeper. The depth was no problem for us, because we were making our counters 3" deeper than standard, i.e. 27" not including counter overhang. We pulled the 24" deep base cabinets away from the wall by 3" to create the deeper counters (love them by the way--will never go back to 24" deep counters). So the slightly deeper panelled KA was no problem for us, and it sits flush with our cabinetry. The KA is as "nice" as other dishwashers we looked at. The Bosch and Miele are excellent, but for us, the Bosch seemed too small, and while we loved the Miele, we couldn't spend the $1200 more for it....See MoreReplacing stainless door on Miele dishwasher with custom panel
Comments (10)Sorry, but I put the wood panel on a panel-ready unit. However, given the general desire for parts commonality, I would be surprised if there were very many parts that were unique to the stainless steel outer skin version. I can also report that taking the door partially apart to replace some panel attaching parts was relatively simple and did not mess with more than was needed. Miele Parts should be able to provide you with parts assembly diagrams. My Optima is now over 10 years old, so there could be many changes of which I am unaware, so I am not a reference for today's models....See MoreTo go panel ready or to go stainless steel... thoughts?
Comments (7)I prefer custom panels, but I don't feel too strongly about stainless steel. If sometime in the future one of our appliances dies and has to be replaced with a stainless model, I am sure we'll adjust. But for the time being, I am very happy with panels. On the other hand, I don't really like the fully integrated look that has become so popular in recent years. I would never have a giant 36" storage cabinet in my kitchen, so I felt the integrated SZ would look overwhelming and out of place when trying to masquerade as a cabinet. We ended up buying the built-in version, recessing it into extra deep cabinets, and installing the door flush with the cabinet fronts. The upshot is that we gain a little bit more fridge capacity. But more importantly, the fridge now looks just a little bit different from all the other cabinets. I love the look. It's subtle, but it makes just the difference I was looking for. But this is obviously a very subjective choice....See Moreci_lantro
