GE Profile panel-ready, or JennAir panel ready

Does anyone know who makes the GE panel ready (PFIC1NFWBV)? Is it also Amana?

How does it compare with the JennAir panel ready (made by Amana). Does it matter which company makes them?

I hear that most bottom freezer refrigerators are made by 2 companies. Is this true?

I am looking for a fridge for my remodel (white cabs, angola silver or valley white granite - haven't decided yet, medium oak floors)and do not think I want a large stainless fridge. As with everything else, I am still undecided and very flexible. Although it is stainless,I have also been tempted by Fisher Paykel 20 cu ft because it seems less bulky than others.

Obviously, I do not which to spend over 5K for SZ, Lieberr etc.

I don't have either of these, but I believe you can't change the handles on the GE. On the Jenn-air you can use custom handles.

Any pros or cons about these models? I believe the GE is similar to the PFCF1NFWWW

I was going to buy the Jenn-Air JFC2089 custom panel french door frig for our new house. However after doing some research I found that this refrigerator comes with the handles as shown on the Jenn-Air website. These handles screw into the refrigerator cabinet and the custom panels need to be cut to allow the handles to be installed through the panel and into the door. Custom handles can not be used with this model. So I opted for the KitchenAid KFC022EVBL instead. This model does not come with any handles and allows for any custom handles to be attached to the cabinet panel. I've had this frig installed for about 4 months and it's been great.

Counter depth panel ready fridge

Okay, so I am driving myself crazy. I'm trying to find a freestanding panel ready french door counter depth fridge that has a white cabinet. I like the Jenn Air, but it doesn't accept customer purchased handles. I like the GE Profile, but it has the built in visor handle, and I love the Kitchen Aid (thanks to Gary), but the cabinet is in black. Are there brands/models I'm missing that I should consider? Also, for those of you with a cabinet paneled counter depth fridge (french door or not), would you post pics and also let me know how deep is the space in which you have your refrigerator and how far it sticks out beyond that space? Thanks so much!!

Melissa, I have the SZ 36" french door with bottom freezer. It replaced a a SZ 42" side by side when I renovated my kitchen in 2012. I found the side by side to be awful for at least three reasons: (1) in my experience, one opens the fridge ten times for every time opening the freezer, (2) it is impossible to freeze something on a sheet pan or something of similar size and (3) the fruit and vegetable drawers are on the bottom in the side by side whereas with the over/under, they are at waist level. In my country house, when I remodeled, I couldn't do a SZ--the Fisher & Paykel is what fit into the existing space and I wasn't willing to tear up the cabinets. I curse it every day. The build on the SZ is so, so, so much better. No plastic drawers but rather coated metal. When I drop a frozen package of meat on the bottom of the drawer of the FP, I always worry that the plastic drawer will crack. You don't know what you have until you don't have it anymore. Call SZ and ask them about the drawer coming off the track. That never happens to me--something might need to be fixed or adjusted.

We are lloking at the GE Profile as well (#PFIC1NFW) and we found it is a bit bigger the the Jenn-Air (#JFC2089HPR) both panel ready. GE is 20.4 cu ft. and Jenn-Air was 19.8 cu ft. GE has three freezer shelves and Jenn-Air only 2, both had pull out adjustable shelves and adjustable shelf heights in the refrigerator area. Down side on GE was it was not Energy Star rated and Jenn-Air was. Both models we looked at were French door models. I would also like to know who makes them.

Did you actually see a GE profile panel-ready? Did you notice if the bins had metal sliders or just flimsy plastic. The new GE profile made by GE not LG in the factory in Mexico has this on the bins and I was told by a salesman that the panel-ready had them as well. In addition the bins seemed more sturdy.

We are going (again) with the Jenn-Air - mostly because you can change the handles and we had it previously - and liked it.

We had the GE Profile bottom freezer, returned it for the JenAir. I did not like the way the panels were put into place, magnets and double sided tape was involved.... The Jenair also gives the option of changing handles if you want to, overall looks better. The Jenair will give you water dispenser (on the inside), the GE does not. The only thing that I liked better about the GE was the doors opened more wide, easier to put large items into the fridge.

Judy, we did see a GE Profile panel ready and I think it was metal sliders but to be honest I need to check it again. We like the adjustable pull out shelves and liked the bottom freezer three drawers better as I think the Jenn-Air had only 2. I do not know how the panel are mounted on either so need to check that. The handles are just not a big issue for us.

I just saw yesterday information on the Fisher Paykel's (#RF201ADUX)new French door bottom freezer and liked the look and the information on their website about it. So I will give it a look for sure.

If you see the GE again, please let me know. I too have seen and liked the Fisher Paykel; just not sure that I want a big Stainless steel fridge in my kitchen. FYI The Fisher Paykel has clearance needs of 1 inch on the sides and back and top (1.5). I am still undecided.

We meet with our kitchen cabinet guy last evening and he shared he can put a cabinet panel on any refrigerator so we are thinking the Fisher Paykel may move up the list as it is energy rated and we also do not want a stainless steel refrigerator. I have not had the opportunity to go back to the appliance place and double check the GE Profile but hope to do so.

Not sure about the added weight to the door but really can not imagine it adds much and assume panel ready frigs are designed with that in mind. How it would effect the new French door CD Fisher Paykel if we added cabinet panels, I am not sure. I will ask our cabinet guy and see what he tells me.
