Overly approachable?

The other day while waiting in the check out line at the grocery the woman in the next line started up a conversation with me. It began as a nice little chat about the holidays, etc., but quickly turned into her giving me the run down of her physical ills. This happens to me a lot, and I have learned to turn the conversation around by asking "Are you a gardener?" Strangers will start talking to me in stores, and especially at Garden Centers or greenhouses/nurseries probably because I have worked with plants my whole life and must look like I know what I am doing. Can't tell you how many times I have been asked at a garden center - "Do you know where the (whatever they are looking for) is?" The funny thing is I DO usually know where it is and can tell them where to find it. Even if the store we are in doesn't carry it! Guess I should have a big sign around my neck that says I don't work here!

I consider myself more of an introvert and rarely start up a conversation with anyone I don't know. My usual method of shopping is get me in and get me out as soon as possible.

How about you? Ever been somewhere where a stranger starts talking to you and you are wondering "why are you telling me all of this personal stuff?" And "should I start charging an hourly rate?"
