Comments (4)Ikea sounds like a great idea. You might also try a Habitat for Humanity Re-store, people donate cabinets when they remodel. Proceeds help the needy, donors get a tax deduction, the material stays out of the landfill, and you get a great deal. win-win-win-win...See More21" deep wall cabinets flanking the stove-- WWYD?
Comments (99)More pictures are here! The house is almost done and things are starting to get cleaned up. Now it is very easy to see the countertops (although I wish I had cleared all of the junk off of them before taking these photos.) And you can see the total kitchen-- minus the fridge and microwave in their little nooks. I'll do a true reveal thread once it is completely functional, but for now this thread will have my sneak peek reveal. :) The BS is grouted and all is in order. This picture shows the hood that started this whole thread in all it's glory. I feel like I should carve "GW" in the hood somewhere as a testament to how this website made it possible. :) A closeup of the backsplash. Daltile Modern Dimensions subway 4 1/4" x 12 3/4". And the ledge we built into the wall behind the range run. The stove is the GE cafe dual fuel range with baking drawer. The view from the dining room. I want to change that outlet cover to match the island because it's an eyesore right now. A view from the pantry of the entire kitchen. The counters are Caesarstone piatra grey on the perimeter and frosty carrina on the island. Obviously missing the barstools-- if anyone has an opinion about what those should be, please speak up! That's it. I close with one last huge THANK YOU. There are a few of you who were helpful from the moment I first appeared on here with a dysfunctional floorplan right up until I figured out how to get exactly what I wanted. You know who you are and please know that I am sending so much sincere love and appreciation your way. I hope that people stumble across this thread and read it and realize the power that GW can have with it's collective wisdom and creative and collaborative problem solving. I keep thinking that if I had let my hurt feelings from people critiquing my original floorplan convince me to stay off of GW, my whole first floor and kitchen would be different. Thank goodness I decided to put on my big girl pants and stick around for the long haul!!...See Moremore drawers or corner base cabinets--wwyd?
Comments (10)My layout is almost identical. My range wall is a few inches longer and the legs of my U are only 92". I wanted the drawer stacks next to the range to be as wide and functional as possible. When I researched storage options, I read where someone "did the math" and found that there is actually more square inches in storage when you close off the corners and use all drawers instead. I like the quick access of pulling open a drawer rather than pulling out and pushing back a contraption or opening a door and spinning a Susan. Not to mention the $$ savings. Your long U would allow you to put another drawer stack to the right of the sink. Then you can eliminate that 9" tray storage. I had a 12" one in my old kitchen and it was too cramped and too low to find what I needed quickly. Trays can go over the fridge or you can design a space in the pantry. My tray storage is in a cabinet over my pull-out pantry. You do not want your trash between the sink and stove, as suggested. One, you won't be able to pull it out while prepping in that corner, and two, while you're at the sink or the stove, someone will want to use the trash, making you step out of the way. My trash cabinet is only 13" and is between the sink and DW. Close to the sink while prepping and accessible to the table clearer without bothering the dish washer (DH!). I'd suggest two other layout changes. Make your pantry 24" if possible and move the fridge down. You'll appreciate a little more counter space in the corner where the microwave is more than you will the shelf space to store a few more cans of tomatoes. Is there a dining room on the other side of the peninsula? If so, I would eliminate seating and do a one-level peninsula. You have no large prep space in your kitchen. I use mine like a mini-island....See MoreWWYD - wall color with peachy cabinets?
Comments (28)Three coats white on wainscoting, three coats seapearl on walls... This is not fun. On the plus side, looks amazing. A light warm noncolor, just strong enough not to wash out at night. Fishcow, I know what you mean as peninsula cabs are usually on my hit list, but these ones don't hurt my feelings. They're relatively unobtrusive and they just really block the view of the TV from the kitchen, but not the views or the seating in the living room....See MoreFori
