Coffee Table - from chrome to black, help!

Hi all,

I purchased the "Smart Round Marble Coffee table" in white marble with a CHROME base from CB2 a year or so ago.

After a decade of living with the same dull, cheap pieces, we are finally freshening up our space and it's slowly becoming the perfect modern chic space we've been longing for. We have an open floorplan (living/dining/kitchen) in our Chicago condo and in order to make the space feel cohesive, the "Smart Round Marble Coffee Table" in white marble with a matte BLACK base would be the PERFECT final touch.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to convert a chrome base to matte black? is this even possible to do without it looking like a total botched DIY job? I want to avoid simply purchasing a new base outright... especially if it's going to cost a pretty penny.

On the same token, our new dining room table will be arriving this week - it is a glass top with a chrome base and our dining room chairs are grey with black legs. Our new media console is a lighter grey with a white marble top and the pulls on its cabinets/drawers as well as the legs are a light bronze finish and pretty subtle.
